I am not carrying chains!!!!! I will go the coast route if the weather or the highway is snowy! In all the years I lived in Oregon, I only chained up my car once.....
You gotta live on the edge sometimes!!

LOL..Teofff!
You showed your hand too early! You are in soooooo much trouble now that Sacs knows you hate chains!
Heeey, I haven't checked the storage bins of the rig..maybe you can borrow ours as you go through Sacramento - and drop them off with the "Toll Troll"!
Good Luck coming over the Pass and the Troll will see you on the 16th or 17th!

Call me chicken little....I have decided (of course after I check with Gloria) to take take 80 west to 37 North to 101 north and come up the coast route, and cut over at Florence to Eugene!!! I will check in from the road!!
Are you loven the beautiful Oregon weather the last few days????

You may want to consider going on up I-5 North to Dunnigan, filling up at the Pilot station there, get back on I-5 to Williams and then cut over to the coast there at Hwy 20.. Living in Sacto, that is the way we always go over. The road is not quite as good as the one going over from Napa, (37), but is no problem and you would be a lot further North when you hit 101..
Oh Yeah, the chains are here at the house...

Thanks, I just looked at the map, and I think your right on! On the map the road looks a little curvy, but I assume no problem for the 40' with toad???

Definitely no worse than the coast route through Oregon. Also, that gives you another couple hours to decide on weather and maybe going on over the pass on I-5
There is a program called weatherpulsethat you can get herethat gives you hourly temps for the current day and a 10 day advance forecast that seems to be fairly accurate and easy to use.

Thanks again SACS....I looked on Accuweather.com and while it is still two weeks away, they are predicting snow and ice over the pass...but will monitor it up to the last minute for sure....in fact, it is forcasting snow in Portland for when we get there....

Well we just arrived in Phoenix and had a great trip. We went down I-5 (ahead of the rain and flood) at Medford we went to Klamath Falls. Spent the night in a Passport America Park. It had snowed in the pass the night before but it was all off the road. from there we headed to south toward Reno on 39,139 and 395 and on down 80 to Fernley and another PA park. The pass at Tonopah was a non issue. Beautiful travel. Next night was in Amargosa Valley, where we boondocked on the side of the road near a rest stop. At Wikieup As we found another PA. that we met some dear folks. Today we drove the 2 hours into Phoenix and set up. We are settled in for the next several months.

Thanks to all of you that helped. It was a beautiful trip and we really enjoyed it.

Great- You caught a good window of time for the weather. Where did you land in Phoenix? We landed at The Paradise Resort in Sun City until Sunday. We then will store for the month as we fly back to Seattle for the holidays. We will setup at Palm Creek in Casa Grande for the month of Feb.

Kaye & Larry,
You are correct we did find a good window and it looks like it has regressed significantly. We ended up at Pioneer RV at the very north of Phoenix, just off of I-17. We are committed for a month but like you are leaving, but only for 10 days during Christmas.
Kent
