Does this group have a club or name? I don't see much conversation or reply s. Do some of you get together for a rally from time to time?

We're pretty new ( 1st year) and are heading out May 9th for 3 months across the North to the mid-west and later to the IRV2 rally in Branson July 15. We hope to be back the first week of August. We are heading to E Washington to the wine country. Lewiston to the ****'s canyon area, Montana, Yellowstone, Jackson Hole, Devil's tower, Mount Rushmore then relative visits to the Midwest. We would enjoy visiting with some of you along the way.

Happy trails.

You are right this is a very quite area on the Forum. I don't think it is a club just an area where Northwest information and contacts can be shared.

We live on the Oregon Coast in South Tillamook County so if you plan on heading this way and need some information give us a holler.

Your trip sounds great have a great time and enjoy the ride.

Kaye & Larry,
My Wife and I live in Meridian, ID and I check in IRV2 weekly and check the "Northwest Region" each time. You are right, not much happening in this section of IRV2. We are headed to the Oregon Coast on the 3rd week of May and then I-5 to Northern Calif and then wander back to Idaho. Garbageman has already given us good info on the campground we are staying at in the Newport area. Do you plan on staying in Hells Canyon? If so, Copperfield is a great campground. Need any info on campgrounds along I-84 let me know. Have a good trip.

Ron

Thanks Ron. We do plan to stay at Hells Canyon. I saw a park "Hells Canyon RV" at Clarkston I thought we might try but tell me more about Copperfield. Is this a town or name of campground. I didn't see it on my street and maps program.

Thanks

I want to pass on a word of caution for anyone traveling to the Newport area.

Just north of Newport on highway 101 is a very rough section of road. The highway has started to slip towards the ocean. The highway is open with "SLOW" signs posted. Just slow way down and you'll be fine.

I travelled down there in Feb. and didn't slow down enough and the coach really took a huge twist and bump which slightly pulled our lower galley kitchen away from the wall.

Just a heads up.
Paul

Kaye & Larry,

There is a little "town" of Copperfield, OR but there isn't any food, gas, or services that I know of. I'm not familiar with Hells Canyon RV but we have a friend that likes it. Copperfield campground is located right below Oxbow dam and we drive through Cambridge, ID on highway 71 to get there. There is another road (highway 86) from Baker City, OR to Halfway, OR and then to Copperfield but I have never driven that road so I don't know what it's like. I think the only way from the Clarkston area is down highway 95 to Cambridge, ID. If you would like to email me at milham1@msn.com I can forward pictures of the campground to you and give you some information and location of two great "overlooks" that look down into Hells Canyon.

Ron

I think there is some confusion here on just where Hells Canyon is...

The Hells Canyon Resort (a Good Sam RV park) is in Clarkston, WA, across from the Hells Gate State Park on the Idaho side in Lewiston. Both are nice places. But this is the southern end (actually south) of the official Hells Canyon by about 3 hours boat time down the Snake River. Lewiston, Idaho and Clarkston, WA are across the Snake from each other, at the confluence of the Clearwater River.

Copperfield, OR is actually at Oxbow Dam, "owned" by Idaho Power (although it's on the Oregon side of the Snake), on the up-river end of the Snake River's Hells Canyon. The Canyon-proper doesn't actually start until you travel down river a few miles to Hells Canyon dam. Copperfield can be reached either from the Idaho side, from Council or Fruitland, ID (down a long winding grade and road) or from the Oregon side via Halfway, OR (off I-84 at Baker, OR). The Copperfield Park is very nice, run by Idaho Power, and very accessible for RV's and tenters. There are jet boat trips during the summer from Hells Canyon Dam (a few-miles drive from Copperfield) into the Canyon, too. There is another park at Hells Canyon Dam area but it isn't nearly as nice as the Copperfield Park.

Hope this clarifies your Hells Canyon itinerary! [BTW, we love Copperfield! I was raised in Lewiston, Idaho so a visit there isn't very exciting to me!]

Hi Kay and Larry,

My wife and I are fairly new to irv2 and the forums but I try and check in every day. I'm a e-mail nut so would be happy to visit with you folks. We bought our first used MH a few months ago and will set sail in January after my wife retires, I can't wait. We've made some of the trip you wrote about in a car a few years back, we have relatives in Idaho and South Dakota, so took in the sights when visiting. We hope to share our adventures with you in the future and hope you do the same.

Willynojob- Welcome to IRV2 and congratulations on the new rig!.

BYW I do know where Kapowsin is. I designed and installed a data transmission system for the Bethal school system years ago and did the Kapowsin (elementary?) I think they were in the process of asbestos removal at the time. Were busy this week getting ready to head out again, this time for a week at the Blackwell Island RV park at Couer de Alene lake in ID. We had a fantastic 11 weeks on the road this summer and everything worked like a charm. Lots of rain and hot weather in the Oklahoma and Missouri area but we still had a great time.

Howdy all,

I thought I would drop a note and introduce myself. I have been frequenting the Thor Class A Manufacturers forum a bit and just stumbled across this one.

Anyway, we are located just south of Portland and when we are not showing dogs on the weekends we try to get out of town to the mountains or coast etc. But since I am just "tired" not retired, we typically stay in the region over long weekends.

Feel free to PM or call me if you are coming through the Portland area and need any advice on layovers or traffic routing etc.
