In June we will take 30 days and travel through IN,OH,WV,VA,NC,GA. We prefer State/National Parks and enjoy kayaking ang hiking along with some history. Any suggestions from this group on IN or OH?

Well if it was me traveling "through" Ohio and I wanted to see something that I wouldn't forget anytime soon; I'd want to go to Hocking Hills St. Pk. and do some hiking on the trails there...Bring a camera because it's very photogenic. Definitely one of the best scenic locations in Ohio.

Mohican St.Pk. is in the canoeing capital of OH. You can get sites that back to the Clearfork River where you can drop your kayaks & go. Walk the North Rim or Hemlock Gorge Trails or drive over to the covered bridge where you can pick up the Lyons Falls trails. Climb to the top of the fire tower for a fantastic view of the county.

I really enjoyed Prophetstown St. Pk in IN. They've got some really nicely secluded pull-thru sites & staying at the campground includes entrance to the historic farm.

For WV, you can kayak the New River Gorge - if you dare the white water rapids. Babcock St. Pk. would be the nearest CG that's roomy enough for your 5-r & truck.

Before I saw Lori's reply, the first place that came to mind was Mohican State Park. Lots of history in the area. Mansfield is not far away and there is the old prison that does tours. This is the prison in Shawshank Redemption, Air Force One, etc. There is also a self-tour called the Shawshank Trail. More info at:

Shawshank Trail

Malabar Farm State Park is also in the area. This was the home of author Louis Bromfield and was the site for the wedding of Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. You can go through The Big House there and they usually have some wonderful things for sale in their gift shop. No camping here so you would still stay at Mohican.

Hope this helps!

When in Ohio. The National Museum of the United States Air Force is a must see. There arnt any State Parks "close" but a few within 30 min drive. Ohio State Parks has a great website. There is a great KOA closeby, but its KOA lol.
