I am new to this region and here for the next two years. Currently the RV is in storage/winterized. I would be interested in input from this group on some must do 3-4 day adventures in RV'g in this region. I will probably never be back this way so want to take advantage and only have so much time off. We enjoy, kayaking, hiking, and site seeing. We also enjoy just sitting around a fire relaxing. We are just North of Chicago.

Helotes2010... Glad you stopped in! I kust wanted to let you know that the "Pond Piggies" is the active group in this region. NLOVNIT is probably the Queen Piggie but I don't know for sure. You can contact her or find the "Pond Piggy Club" and contact a member listed there. They can probably let you know when they will have any outings planned.
I hope you enjoy the region while you are there!

Hello there. Welcome to the North Central Region!
There's a northern IL camping group headed up by Mike54 that will post outtings in this region's Forum. Look for them or private message (PM) Mike so he knows you're new to the area.
The Pond Piggie camping group is mostly centered in NE OH & W & Central PA. We've got a couple campouts posted (Memorial Day & 4th of July) already. You are more than welcome to join us if you're in the area.

If you get down to Central Illinois, there is a state park called Kickapoo near Danville, Illinois. They have a launch so you can go up and down the river. Now, here is the sad part...I don't remember the name of the river!!!
Enjoy your stay!

Drummond Island,Michigan is a great place to camp and explore. Heck the whole UP for thatmatter. If you just keep going north from where you are at, through Wisconsin, then take a right at the UP. Then just drive to the eastern edge, then, south on the ferry and your there.Lots of great sight in the UP.I would sugest making this a week long adventure though. You dont want to miss anything.

To add to Woody's suggestions; there are many old lighthouses along the lake shore-line in the UP. A national park is along there, Michigan I'm sure you are aware of the many great museums in/near Chicago. If you wish to drive to extreme South Illinois(ohio river) there is a little-known, but outstanding state park named Cave in Rock state park (see their website).
As for my state- Indiana, visit: IN.gov: Tourism & Transportation for many suggestions. Shipsheewana,IN area is IMO a really interesting place to visit

Cave in Rock is an outstanding state park. We have made day trips there when we camp in Effingham. However, when they say road ends in water, they really mean it! Very enjoyable place to cruise.

We decided on Charleston SP for our first outing of the season. Camper is de-winterized and cleaned up after sitting in Northern IL. It is predicted to rain (weather channel so 50/50 chance of being right, it either will or it won't rain). But we are going if I have to buy an extra umbrella for my cigar.

We had a great week at Charlestown SP. Nice park with fair hiking trails. Weather held for the most part. This is a nice clean park with full hook ups and clean comfort stations. The water in the CS are push for each 30-40 secs of water which can be annoying. Plenty of room to bike and I even had a kayak trip on the Ohio river. The camper held its first winter in storage well. Only causalty was the water heater. Electric was completely out, propane wanted to start but never ignited. I think it was related to the de-winterizing but not sure....we'll have to see what the shop has to say.

Glad you had a good time. Please take a moment & do a review of your stay at CSP. All our members would benefit from your experience if you enter a review. Just click on the Campgrounds tab at the top of the page, choose Add Campground & follow the prompts.

I'm glad you enjoyed your camping trip. Sounds like you had a good time. Our trailer is still sitting in driveway. Ready to go, but have to wait for the wife to go on vacation.
The water heater in our trailer acts strange, too. If it is raining, or damp out, then it won't work on gas, you have to run the electric. It just doesn't like the damp weather. Been like that since the day we bought it.
Regards,
