I'd have joined 'ya (and stayed until Monday) if it was the weekend before (08/15). but Chris begins another school year on 08/21.

We're going somewhere the weekend of 08/15. We just have to decide where.

Enjoy yourselves!

Hi Mike:

Thanks for the thought. When I checked Reserve America, there weren't any open sites for that weekend.

Actually, it's a little too far for us. I estimate a minimum of six hours travel time. It takes me about this long to go to Lancaster (about 250 miles) and that's all highway driving once I get on I-70. I can't leave home until around 6:00 PM because I have to help my son with the store. It would be midnight or later before I arrived at the park.

I've been limiting my weekend camping trips to the range of one fillup of both my fuel tanks. I did real well last weekend. Went to Blue Knob S.P (located about 20 miles north of Shawnee S.P.)., visited the Johnstown Flood National Historic Site, the Railroaders Memorial Museum in Altoona and returned home.

I've been to Shawnee S.P. twice this year, so far.

Hi Frank,

The cost of fuel is keeping us a little closer to home as well, but we're also stretching the trips length out as a way to justify the travel to farther places.

As Mike mentioned we're going to Ives Run, but we're actually going to be arriving there on Wednesday night and staying though the weekend. I'm actually going to be staying in Kane PA this coming weekend, then driving to Kalumet on Sunday and leaving Shelly and the kids there while I work Mon-Wed Wednesday afternoon, I'll drive the toad back to Kalyumet to meet them and we'll pull the rig out to head to Ives Run. I figure by leaving the motorhome at Kalyumet the fuel I'll save will practically pay for their camping.

The port Erie trip will be just the weekend, but we'll probably stay late to enjoy the entire day Sunday on Presque.

Wow, Joe. That's one intricate "game plan"!

We went to Cape May, NJ in June (with a stop at Shawnee on weekend of the return trip). Nice area, Cape May, but bring money and lots of it. We went to a pancake house for breakfast one morning. I had 3 pancakes, sausage, one egg, and coffee. Chris had the same thing but with bacon. The bill: $23.00 excluding tip. However, fuel was a lot cheaper in NJ; and they pump it for you as, by law, there are no self-service filling stations.

Did you take the Blue Ridge trip that was planned? I don't recall seeing anything about it.

New Developements: no camping for the next two weekends (08/15 & 08/22)

I went to my ophthalmologist today as I have had blurriness in my right eye for about the last six months. As I already suspected, I have a cataract; but the surprise was that I have one in my left eye too. So, next Thursday, I'll have surgery on the right eye and the following Thursday, the left. I'm hoping to be back to normal by the time Labor Day weekend rolls around.

You take care Frank and let us know how the surgery goes.
You'll probably be able to spot the muddy areas better this way.

Frank, Hope you bounce back quick. Now you will have time to recover while relaxing and enjoying some Cheetos.

I've heard wine has wonderful recouperative powers. Take 2 glasses, twice a day or until vision improves.

Seriously, best of luck with your surgeries & we wish you a quick recovery.

Thank you for your continued support (as the Bartles and Jaymes guys used to say in their TV commercials). When we went to Blue Knob S.P. a couple of weekends ago, I noticed on the way out that night driving was becomming more difficult; especially glare from the opposing traffic's headlights.

One eye done and one to go!

Had the right eye done this morning and all went well. The actual surgical time is about five minutes. From now until I get the other eye taken care of next Thursday will be the most awkward part of the entire process. Here's why.

I'm nearsighted with bifocals (due to presbyopia). The implanted lens corrects my nearsightedness but not the presbyopia (they make implant lenses that will correct both but our health plan won't pay for them). Since I don't need the distance portion on the right lens anymore I removed it from my glasses. This, of course also removes the bifocal that corrects my vision for close work so, now I don't any correction for my right eye's presbyopia. When looking down with my glasses on (like at the keyboard) I see a double image that's both clear and blurry. I see two keyboards and four hands. It's impossible for me to see where my hands actually are unless I close my right eye.

Well, as the old saying goes, "This, too, shall pass.".

After the left eye is done, I'll probably have to invest in a pair of those drug store "reading glasses" as I won't see the doctor for the glasses prescription until about 2-3 weeks after the surgery.
