Hey everyone! Sitting here watching my gas meter go round and round and just thinking about where we might camp next summer. If my oldest daughter moves to NC we might try there, but always love to head up to the UP and Van Riper SP. If we can't make it there we head to Hoeft SP, n. of Rogers City.

How about you?

Some of us did the UP trip last year.Spent about 10 days in the area and really liked it.
Would like to get to the west side of the lower section, dont know if it will be this year or not.
Otherwise, not sure where we go yet. Probably start figuring it out in the next couple of weeks.

We've found that Van Riper SP (about 30 miles west of Marquette) is a perfect home base allowing us to visit the western and most northern parts of the UP. The Porkie Mtns and Copper Harbor are both nice day trips from that location, and Pictured Rocks are even closer.

Dave & I have more OH state parks on our list for 2006 - spent good money for that camper's club card so have to use it
NW,SW & Central PA are on our list, too, for this year. That means I'll need a lot of input from you guys ( Joe & Frank)!
Then it's wherever the Pond Piggies decide to go that'll fill out the rest of our destinations.

I few months back I thought West Branch SP would be a good place for a Pond Piggies Memorial Day weekend. I checked today on their website a saw they only had 5 full service sites left. Their electric sites for that weekend are only 25% taken so far. Mike did a good job setting up Cutty's for that weekend last year. I was kind of surprised that they were able to get us all into the same area with full service. I think state parks are hard to book group campouts during the summer and holiday weekend because they fill up so far ahead.
Just a note here. Over the last two Oct./ fall seasons we have camped at both Mohican and West Branch fall / Halloween camp-outs. If you get into Halloween and have kids these is a great time. This year Mohican is having it two weekends (Oct 13 - 14) & (Oct 20 - 21 ) and West Branch is having it (Oct 13 - 14 ). We went to West Branch's last year and they had a Haunted Trail (about a 1/2 mile long) done with about 100 volunteers (great job) . On Sat. early evening they close down the roads ( no car travel) for the kids to trick-or-treat for about 2 hours. A lot of people go all out to decorate their campsites. For both of these we made reservations about 3 months before hand.
Were still up in the air on our summer travel plans. We usually do a week in June at Laurel Hill SP in SW PA. A week in July at Mohican. And then 2-1/2 weeks somewhere different in August. Last year we did 2 weeks at Cooks Forest / Clear Creek Forest in Northern PA. Diane really liked that trip. At Clear Creek your right on the Clarion river. Its a very quite / low key park.
