Just trying to help spread the word of the quarantine on firewood in Wisconsin. Seems most folks think they've heard "something" but nothing's been very clear. Following is information we received from the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade & Consumer Protection.
The gypsy moth is a serious threat to our economy, environment and health. At dense populations, gypsy moth caterpillars may eat all the leaves off trees and shrubs. After severe defoliations,, trees may be so weak that other pests and diseases kill them. As I receive more information from the Wisconisn Department of Agriculture, Trade & Consumer Protection, I will post it.
The graph below shows the counties where wood can and cannot be moved in Wisconsin. We are right in the corner of Marathon, Clark and Taylor counties and need to be careful where we move wood to and from. If the wood has been inspected and is deemed free of gypsy moths, then it can be moved. Greg and I are talking with the Dept. about being "trained" to inspect firewood so we can help out folks in the area who are going camping and bringing firewood along with them.

Bob, we are looking forward to meeting you! Any chance you'll have time to spend the night at the Mik Farm? Here's a pic from last year when we had a few friends visit . . .
We have 30 amp service available (sorry, no 50 amp), and can fill your tanks with the absolute BEST fresh, clean water around! Oh, and if you need to "empty" tanks, there's a FREE dump station just a mile from the store! Certainly can't beat that!

Julie, we will most likely "overnight" in Oconto,WI after traveling from Frankenmuth,MI.
I've made the reservations in Oconto, which looks like a decent drive around the top from Frankenmuth...
Probably a stop, shop and visit in Abbottsford on the way to Dakotah Meadows....

More and more campgrounds in OH are banning bringing in cut firewood because of that dang ash borror beetle. They'll only let in dimensional lumber or you buy what they've got to sell at the campstore. Yuk!

Last summer we actually had a guy from Michigan's DNR come and inspect our firewood. He was real cordial, but it was strange just the same. And yes, the wood was fine. I know Michigan is getting tougher and tougher on the transported wood.

Hey Tim and Gail congrats on your first post on the forum!
We will "overnight" in Holtwood on Sunday,July 23rd....my coach will be the one in the picture here....We'll be coming from Frankenmuth and thought about trying to make it further, but we're thinking we may spend some "sightseeing" time around the top of the lake..
We'll be in a pull-through but that's all I know...
Sorry for stealing the topic....now back to firewood!!

Indiana has instituted the ash borer firewood ban. Some wood from Indiana counties cannot be moved to out of that county, in addition to out-of-state ban. This pest has the ability to lie dormant for years in wood, even dimensional lumber and hardwood flooring, making eradication highly unlikely. That's the IDNR spin on the issue.

I guess the best advice for this summer is to leave the wood at home and buy locally!
