We got new vanity license plates for the camper so I changed our display name to read the same. Have Dave tell you the story behind the double meaning at Lock 30!

Gee Lori, do you think you can you send me your old license plate? Someone stole the one on our TT last Monday while it was parked in front of the house. They even took my iRV2.com license plate bracket. I sure hope they at least join iRV2.com being they went through all that trouble to take it. In the process, they broke off one of the plastic license plate attaching posts that hangs down from the tail light. I estimate it will cost me about $100.00 to purchase a new tail light and have it replaced at an RV repair shop.

I applied for a new licanse plate but for some strange reason Pennsylvania will permit vanity plates only on motorized RVs; So, I'll be issued another "run of the mill" plate.

Mike-

Frank-
The old plates still have the 08/06 sticker on them so they'd be good until August anyway.

That kind of petty theft is just senseless. Of all the things to take! Can you report that plate number as stolen to the police so that if anyone tries to use it on their TT they'll get stopped for it (assuming the police run the plate number)? As for them joining irv2, I hope they don't. Don't need that class of riff-raff polluting are group of nice, honest folks.

Boy, that does stink when someone stoops to the level of stealing a plate. I wouldn't doubt they're so mentally challanged they'll try sticking the plate on a car. Hopefully it will result in them getting picked up for it.

I can't remember what the bracket looks like that goes on your light to mount the plate. Is it necessary to buy a whole new light assembly? I remember on a couple of my trailers, the plate hung from a plastic bracket that mounted behind the taillights. The bracket was a separate piece though and not part of the housing but the same screws that held the light also held the bracket.

I know you'd rather spend that 100 bucks camping then fixing something those idiots broke.

Here's the tail light assembly on the TT after the license plate was stolen:

They broke the right tab that holds the license plate on. the left one was undamaged and the screw and washer was still in it.

I'm debating whether to completely replace the light or remove the remaining tab on the left side and "engineer" (not train, Dave) something myself. It could be as simple as attaching the plate to the TT using four sheet metal screws.

The plate was reported to the police as stolen. You have to do this because you can't get another one until you do.

I just hope the new plate comes before we leave Friday, May 19th, for the Mid Atlantic Campers Spring Campout in Lancaster, PA. Otherwise, it could get "interesting" taking a 500 mile trip without a license plate on the TT.

Frank, couldn't you have gone down to the PennDOT service center and gotten a new plate in person?

Not sure where you are near Pittsburgh, but there has to be one near you....

Yeah, I probably could have done that. I think even the local AAA office (about 2 miles from me) can issue replacement plates now.

It just seemed easier to print out the form from the state's website, complete and mail it with a $7.50 check to get the replacement.

If they put me in jail on the way to Lancaster for not having a plate, can you come bail me out?

Sure....can do!!

I was figurin' with all those darn "t-plate agents" in PA you should have been fine...

I'm thinking that, with a receipt for the plate purchase you should be all right, unless of course you get stopped by the PA Staties.....They take that stuff seriously...

They do that "T" plate thing different now, Bob. You just get a regular plate that has no year sticker on it. Along with it, they give you a paper (good for about 90 days, I think) that you stick on the inside of your rear window until the year sticker is received in the mail.

Well... Here's a picture of the damaged tail light:

And Here's my fix:

And with the license plate attached (this is an old plate that I had in my garage... still waiting for the new one):

Who knows, maybe my fix will outlast the life of the trailer.
