At the Northeast Area Gathering at Murchison in Nov, a group discussion was held to determine if we would like to start an annual Texas/Oklahoma Boomers Rally and the outcome of the discussion was very positive.

Heinz and Betty Van Pelt was going to check out some RV Parks on the TX-OK state line and if a suitable one was found I would make the reservations. They found a very suitable park in Thackerville OK Red River Valley Ranch RV Resort. It is about 40 miles North of Denton, TX. The WinStar Casino is within 2 miles of the park and it has a show theatre and a huge Buffet. If we fill all 20 sites we will have use of the rally hall and the price will be $20 or less per night full hookup.

I have reserved 20 sites for Mothers Day Weekend, May 11-14 at this park for our 1st Annual Texas/Oklahoma Boomers RV Rally.

I think a mixer on Friday night with BYO drinks and snacks at 6:30 PM, take all the ladies out to the buffet Sat night for Mothers Day at 5:30 PM, and a departure breakfast Sunday morning at 8:00 AM would be some planned activities (opened for suggestions, of course).

The sign up sheet for this event is now open. If you would like to attend, please sign up here.

1 Tom & Charli Finley, OK (11 - 13)
2 Heinz & Betty Van Pelt, OK (10 - 14)
3 Don and Pat Allen, TX (10 - 14)
4 Mike and Mavis Kelley, TX (11 - 14)
5 Ken & Susan Wilson, TX (12 - 14)

Ken I wouldn't touch that with a 10 ft pink banboo pole. I'd kinda like the Madame and Rusty to attend. Besides my kids gave us a 5 ft high lighted pink chicken for Christmas so I am now resigned to Pink Chickens forever. BY the way I noticed I was the only one proudly displaying ALL their chickens at Rayford New Years.

Don, I just like to ruffle MB's feathers (I think they are pink) when I get a chance.

I have my two pink chickens and proudly display them to show that we are truly "Trailer Trash".

I guess that bunch at Rayford just does not have as much class as you do Don.

We'll roll in there on Friday and pull out Monday. Save my Tree-Hugger a site with a BIG Green tree.

Ken

Hey there y'all!

We have been looking forward to getting together with our Boomer friends again!

I must admit I didn't realize it was going to be Mother's Day weekend, since I take care of my mom that could be a problem. She sometimes will come to a nearby lake and camp one night with us but I know she won't stay longer... mostly because our TT is built for two.

I just looked at the website for the Red River Valley RV Park and I guess it looks OK.... but to be completely honest after the rally at Staway, which was right ON Highway 31, I have to admit that we are a bit concerned with being in any RV Park (we are COE/State Park campers mostly).

So please let me ask someone who has been there:

Is this park far enough away from a major street that we won't hear highway traffic all day/night?

Is there anywhere nearby to fish? I know Lake Murray is close but is there any place closer?

Is there space between sites with some trees and maybe a picnic table?

Sorry to ask so many questions but we really enjoy camping in our little travel trailer and some RV Parks feel nothing like a camping trip to us.

Please don't get me wrong, we enjoy the company but we truly are campers.

Cat, As you may recall in my earlier PM to ya'll, I took the reccomendation of Heinz and Betty who stayed there and said it was a good Park. Since I have already made the reservation with the park, I think we are pretty much locked in at this point.

The smell of all that pink chicken somke musta dulled my senses cuz I don't recall hearing any road noise at Staway. It is as far away from the Interstate as the RV Ranch in Bureleson where we have our annual Labor Day Rally so I don't anticipate a problem with road noise.

If you can't make it just let me know and I will take your name off the sign up list.

Thanks for the information Don...but since we have never stayed at the Burleson RV Park I am not sure what it's like or how close to a road it is. Oh and I wasn't suggesting that there be a change in the rally plans, I was just trying to get more information.

Anyway, I am hopeful that Heinz & Betty can answer my questions.

Sorry guys, wife said something about Mothers's day, her Mom, yadda, yadda, yadda. Not the brightest bulb around, but I'm sure that means we will be at the house that weekend.

Good Deal Bill - I'll put you and Donna down for 11-14 and you can make your other arrangements as you said.

Folks a little explanation about doing this on Mothers' Day. Heinz and I both tried to make the reservation for the 1st weekend in May but this was the only weekend available. So to be positive about it we thought treating all the Moms to a buffet dinner Sat Nite would be a nice touch.

Some of us are very deprived and have no pink chickens to display. I tried to steal one at Christmas but was unsuccessful. I am still trying to find my first very own flamingo.

Don, didn't you notice your pink chickens shivering? It was cold New Year's. I'd never subject my flock to that!!

Donna, those Texas Pink Chickens are tough, they can take down to about 0 dF. Any colder and you have to wrap the skinny little legs in silver duct tape and pipe foam.

Put Dale and Paulette down for 11-15. Park us next next to Bill and Donna Smith if possible.
