Judy and I went to Tyler State Park for the weekend to attend the Regional DOG (Dutch Oven Gathering). Since we are not really members of any of the chapters, we just sorta "showed up" and cooked with the rest of them. The official DOG was run out of a group camping area (Black Jack) and we picked a full hookup site in Big Pines. We had a great time and it was nice to see Dutch and Sandy there, too.

Back to the FAR. Last weekend, we took down several trees for DFW area widow. She had lost them a couple to several years ago and was concerned about them falling on her house but didn't have the financial means to get professionals in there to handle them for her. Don Allen volunteered to come help us but had a schedule conflict with his ski trip when we could get access to her property. The entire time we worked (about 5 hours), we were thinking of Don and vowed to have a fire in his honor with the "proceeds" of our tree cutting efforts. This was the weekend. We had the Saturn trunk and backseat full of all the odd shaped limbs, many of them covered with moss. Judy and I piled the fire ring high and had a toast to Don on Friday but we outdid ourselves last night. Not wanting to bring any of the wood back, we started about 4:45pm and had several more toasts to Don before the evening we over. BTW, the area around Tyler may be one of the only areas in the State without a burn ban

Don, buddy, we sure were thinking about you and wish that you could have been there to share the FARs with us.

Charlie.

P.S. The trip home was one of the worst experiences that I've had driving since we've owned the RV. The combination of the very rough pavement on I-20 in the Terrell/Forney area and the very strong, gusty cross winds along with about a 1/2 million trucks made it a real white knuckle experience. I'm surprised that we made it home, keeping the "dirty side down." The $3.559 we paid for diesel at the Flying J (cheapest in the area) didn't seem to be keeping anyone else off the road. There were stretches when the best that I could do was just under 50mph and even that was hair raising.

Charlie & Judy,

Sorry I missed all the fun and especially the campfar ! I am humbled that ya'll would have a toast in my honor around the far. You could not ask for better friends than those that would do that for you.

I was a bit busy however:

That is Lake Tahoe in the upper left side of the picture. We had a ball - great weather all week and tons of snow !

It looks like you had a great time, Don. Judy isn't much interested in skiing but I would sure love to try Lake Tahoe one of these days. I'm glad that the weather worked out for you, too.

We had remembered how disappointed you were with the burn ban in effect for the Boerne rally. That is why we were toasting in your honor and wishing that you were there with us when we finally could have one. We'll just look forward to our next time with you. With luck, we'll make both the OK and Memorial Day rallies.
