Charlie,
When we lose power, the DSL modem and wireless router will be down, so that's it. Even though I have a laptop as well as a desktop computer, we'll be off line until power is restored.

We have a very comfortable guest room, as well as a driveway for an RV with 30 amp electric. If the power outage goes on too long just head to Arlington. Anyone is welcome. Diane & Bob

I am watching Ike hit Galveston and Houston; keeping all of you in the path of this very serious storm in my prayers. I hope that everyone has taken the necessary precautions. Should a Texas Boomer role call be taken after the storm?

Mike, the news this morning says that 5 million customers in the area are without power. As Rusty said earlier in this thread, that means that most will not have any Internet connectivity. Hopefully, phones and cell phone towers are not as affected but I suspect that some of those will be.
We'll just have to leave it to our Boomer friends to contact us individually if they can if they need help.
Ike is expected to visit Dallas this afternoon.

We live a few miles from Rusty and Sandy. I tried to check in with our house this morning and looks like no power there and the storm seems to be moving off to the north fairly quickly.
The cell towers must be down as I can't get any calls through to the area at all.
Since the storm is moving north fairly quickly, I guess we'll try to get back in there later today and get the generator up and running on the freezer and frig.
As soon as the in-laws manage to get moving I can turn on the TV. The Austin stations have been doing a great job of news from the area.
Ken, Susan, teddy, Belle, Duncan and the in-laws...getting to be out-laws at a rapid rate.

Ken, don't get in a hurry to get back. It will take a day or so to even clear the roadways of all the trees and such that you KNOW are down. That is AFTER the wind and rain die down enough for crews to get out to start work clearing the roadways.
Going tomorrow you may just find yourself stuck on side of the road unable to get close to your house.

We just talked to Rusty and SAndy and they are OK...no power, cell is not working, but the land line is working.
Talked to our next door neighbor and our place is fine, RV carport is still up and some small limbs down.
A local Austin station is broadcasting continuous coverage from channel 11 in Houston. Lots of damage in downtown Houston, with windows blown out.
The SE part of Houston and the county are flooded. Jersey Village (near us) had a Motel 6 loose the roof.
As soon as Sandy can contact some of the other Texas Boomers in the area, she will let me know and I'll post the info.
Ken

Hope all the Texas Boomers are ok after this mess. For any other folks that are out of town I have been watching since yesterday channel 11 news from channel 361 on direct tv. I have checked on my family in League City and they are ok as well. Good Luck to all.

I evacuated to Bastrop and ended up at Bastrop River RV Park. They didn't have a space available but after I told them I am a repeat customer they made one for me. I know my house has no power but I don't know anything else yet. I just talked to Susan Wilson and we both want to go check on our homes, but they are telling us not to go back yet.

We heard from our neighbor and she was able to get out see the area. Our house is fine, the inlaws fine. Two houses down from us had some trees in the house.
Our neighbors in Conroe had some damage when an oak tree wiped out the back corner of there house.
I get a little info out of the ham radio, but they said they are getting very little information from the area.
We will plan to head back to Cypress tomorrow morning. I'll probably have to use my shotgun to get MY generator back from my daughter.
Susan talked to Ed and Sharron Bowen and they came out OK.
Everyone is just begging fro some power.
Ken

Has anyone heard how the interstates are? My daughter is desperate to get back to Houston (lives on SW side & her SO is still there). She will have to drive from SW NC. We are trying to tell her to stay here in NC until at least Monday. She wants to take I-10 or I-20 and then take the "Loop" (what ever that is). Some first hand info on the condition of the rods and availability of fuel along the way would help us decide if she can leave out Sunday or not.
