Hello and apoligies to all for my total absence since being appointed as a moderator for this region. I am Ed Gray and we live in Belle Chasse, La. but have been on the road ever since being elected. I'm also assigned to WCMC section. I'm looking forward to participating with you SCR folks and would especially like to hear from any other members from Louisiana. Hope to get together with you soon, but can't make the Memorial Day rally due to previous commitment.

Welcome back and welcome aboard edgray. Let's see, Louisana...that is the state that has all of those great mudbugs. Did anyone tell you that part of being elected as a moderaor means you have to cook up a mess of mudbugs for any other moderator that happens to wonder into your area... We'll be down as soon as I can confirm some vacation time...

Hi edgray - Madame Boomer checking in to say WELCOME to the SCR section! No doubt you'll be in for LOTS of reading on this site...we are an active bunch! Between the Texans, the Okies and the LA's ....you'd better get some readin' glasses! I assure you'll be kept hoppin!

Ken! in regards to mudbugs...I'm hoping someone will get us a mess of them for our Texas Boomers Island Party Memorial Day. Being the cultered West Texan that I am....I don't have a CLUE how to fix 'em! I have no doubt W5it can tell me!

SANDY: mudbugs can't be "fixed" (cause they are so perfect right out of the swamp) so we just load em up with cayenne pepper (and LOTS of other secret ingredients)and boil them until people start reaching into the pot to get at them cause it smells sooo good!

If W5IT wants to do the cooking, it is ok with me. I'll eat just about anything, it a long standing Louisana tradition!

and thanks, I've already got the glasses. ED

Well for those folks not fortunate enough to live down here is da swamps.........

There is gonna be a gathering at Eisenhower State Park (Dennison, TX) May 13th, 14th and 15th. Here is a link to the Texoma page .....

I am bringing 120-150 pounds of live crawfish that will be cooked up Saturday afternoon. There will also be around 150 pounds of Brisket we will start cooking Friday night and serve Saturday afternoon as well. For the folks that get there Friday afternoon I will have a pot of Jambalaya ready to eat around 5:00 pm.

It is being held by "The North Texas Powerstokers". But you don't HAVE to own a Powerstroke to attend. There are folks with other types of diesel engines that attend. Heck, I have not been in my Powerstroke for the last three years. Have taken Cummins powered rigs. This year looks like I will be in a rig powered by a Detroit 8V92.....

It is just a old fashioned get together to enjoy each others company (And exchange a few tall tales around the campfire) while eatin pretty darn good.

It does not cost folks that attend anything other that the fees charged by the campground. The food and such is paid for through donations made by a dealership and other vendors.

Hello Edgray,
We live in Algiers, LA and volunteer at Rescue Ranch http://www.rescueranch.net in Belle Chasse.
I am sure glad to see someone from LA post on this forum. I have posted a few times with no answers...
We still work and travel on weekends. Memorial weekend we are going to High Hill Ranch in Carrere Miss. RV Park and Trail Rides.
When are we going to have an LA Rally?

Walt

Walt, Thanks for your "hello" and suggestion for a LA rally. I'm all for getting together for a meet and greet with other members from La. ( we can't let Texas have ALL the fun). If we ask him real nicely, maybe we can get Don(W5IT) to come and bring more of his famous cooking skills.

I'll place some posts around various sections of iRV2.com and see if we can stir up more interest. In any event, I'll look forward to meeting you soon. ED

Ed, I am always ready to "Stir the pot". (Even cook from time to time )

I have sent "Feelers" in the past about getting together without much luck. Maybe there are enough interested to try again.

I have been the "Ringleader" (Or fool enough to do) for several rallies or get togethers. Three that we (Innovative RV) have done out of our pocket. (The "Bubba Rallies" of folks from the RV.NET and customers)

I'm game...

Maybe something around the MS Gulf Coast where it would be close for the folks in MS and AL??? Or maybe around Lake Charles so the East TX folks could drop by???

Start a thread and let's see what "Shakes out"..

Don (W5IT)

To Walt and Sherri,
I would love to meet fellow RV'ers who are from Algiers....my roots are there! My grandparents had a grocery store there in the 1920's, and on a recent trip to New Orleans, I met a man who wrote a book about the Italian immigrants who settled in Algiers and started businesses. My family's story was in there, (so of course, I bought the book.)
I still have family and friends in that area.
Hope my husband and I meet up with you sometime at a rally! Can you recommend any good RV parks to visit in the N.O. or Baton Rouge area?

Mary, If you go east from BR on I-12 to the exit for La.63 (Frost), there is a fairly new, very nice campground called Lakeside. They accepted Passport America members when we stayed there recently.

As far as the NOLA area, especially if you want to stay/visit on the "BEST BANK", you can't beat Bayou Signette State Park. It is located on BUSINESS US90, and can accomodate almost any sized rigs. Has a wave pool, cabins for rent, boat launches etc. And it is just a short expressway ride to the FQ and other attreactions "over da river" in the Big Easy.

Unfortunately, I can't in good faith offer any positive comments on the various commercial campgrounds along US90 (Chef. Menture) Hwy. in NO East. They are just too small and outdated. There is a KOA near Kenner, but I have not seen it. Hoping to meet you soon at the upcoming "LA." rally. ED
