Hi Folks,
My husband & I have two maybe three days off over July 4th weekend & we need somewhere to go in our RV. We're newbies & have only taken it out on one road trip so we don't want to go too far. Also, we don't have car to tow so we're looking for places/ things to do that we can actually drive the RV to. We're located in Dallas TX & have a 27ft Winnebago & three dogs.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
Meryl

Waiting this late before a major holiday you may have some problems getting reservations. Also, need to know what your interest are and what size rig you have. Post some additional info and we'll see what we can offer.

I know about the late start but we always seem to do things on the spur of the moment (or at least we try to).
We have a 27ft Winnie & like to go to flea markets, antique shows, hiking in parks, shopping & eating. I'd also like someplace where I can hang out with my dogs. Basically I want the perfect vacation spot that will take me at the last minute LOL
thanks for any input you can give me
Meryl

Have you checked out traders village in Dallas or Houston.

Traders Village is a good choice if you like the flea markets. Now if you want a real zoo, you can try First Monday in Canton. Probaly can't get a campsite any closer than Tyler. If you want to try Tyler, I can give you the name and number of a mobile home park on Hwy 64 West. They have 3 or 4 sites for RV's, with water, electric and sewer. There is also a regular RV park on Hwy 31 West.

The lady that manages the mobile home park is real nice as long as you behave yourself...dog on a leash, pick up after your dog, observe quiet hours and absolutely no fireworks. She can get to be a real grouch if you do not abide...I got a spanking the last time I did not follow the rules...she's is my Mother.

Send me a PM if you need the phone number.

A pretty park that is just North of you on HWY-75 is Eisenhower State Park on Lake Texoma.

Short trip to a pretty park. With supplies and such very handy only a few miles away in Dennison.

At Eisenhower you will have several visits in your campsite. The rabbits will come right up to within a few feet of ya while you are sittin under that awning drinking you morning cup of coffee.

But be sure to put some kind of deet spray on your legs if you go walkin around on the grass. The red bugs (Chiggers) will get ya.....

Another place just North of ya just off I-35 at the edge of Lewisville is nice. I don't remember the name of it but it is on Lake Lewisville. Off the Interstate a bit in a Westerly direction.

Hope these ideas help a bit.

thanks everyone for info. I think I'll look into Eisenhower State Park. I've already been to Traders village, Canton & Lake Lewisville. The other idea I had was LA somewhere. Maybe on the way to New Orleans.
Any thoughts on that area?
thanks
Meryl

If you are looking for something along the way to New Orleans, Grand Bayou Resort is a nice park just South of Shreveport. It is just off I-49 a Little bit. Very nice place.

If you want something in the New Orleans area I have two that I would recommend. Both are "State Parks".

Fairview-Riverside and Fontainebleau

are two I would recommend. Both are nice peaceful parks. Fairview is right on a river and Fontainebleau is on Lake Ponchartrain.

They are near "The Causeway" which is a direct shot into the New Orleans area.

I have been going to Fairview Riverside for over 35 years! That was one of our favorites when we (Mom, Dad, my sister and I) went "Campin" in Mom and Dads slide in when I was growing up. (My wife tells folks I have not grown up yet)

I passed the campground several times last Sunday in "Rat Patrol" (Our "Water RV"). We spent the day on the water with the kids swimming, towing the "Super Tube" and of course eating lunch at "Morton's" in Madisonville. You can tell by the background in the pictures how pretty the river is....

Hope this helps ya!!

"Keep on Kampin"

Don

If you like to camp in State Parks, come on out here to E Texas and enjoy the Piney Woods, lakes, etc. A LOT of State Parks and some great COE parks as well. Only 130 miles or so E of Dallas, but another world (we know; we retired after living in Dallas for 30 yrs and LOVE the woods here!)..

There are several Texas Boomers that plan to go to the Rayford Crossing RV park in north Houston for the 4th weekend. If that's not too far, come on down-there's plenty of room.

Meryl36 -
We've been out of the state for a week, but it looks like friends here in the South Central Section are pointing you in the right directions for a neat place to visit over the July 4th weekend. Keep in touch to let us know where you'll be!

Sandy
