The Texas Boomers from far and wide headed to Bastrop for the OctoberFest Rally this weekend and AS ALWAYS we had more fun, food and fellowship than the law should allow!

The Creekmores and Allens pulled in around 5pm on Thursday night and Don soon thereafter started the campfire that lasted through the entire rally! I don't think that fire ever went out!

Friday, we woke up to gray skies and as the day progressed the rain went from a sprinkle to a shower - of course! The weatherman in Austin continued to say we were having a beautiful day with sunshine and 80 temps - now you know why none of us should ever believe a weatherman! A cold front came through that sent us all to Wal-Mart to buy sweatshirts and jackets!

Everyone arrived safely except Jim and Janet Mezger. Jim got a "bug" and stayed in bed all weekend. We missed you guys!

David Shodrock had some excitement getting to Bastrop! There's a little vehicle off in the ditch somewhere that has HOPEFULLY learned a valuable lesson: a big 5th wheel has the right of way on the off-ramps!

Friday night's catfish dinner was absolutely AWESOME thanks to our master cooker Bob Wurch. Fresh catfish with a batter mix that included tequila and lime was a first, but boy did it taste good! Thanks to Bob's helpers as well. Great job, great food!

Saturday was perfect in every way. I couldn't have ordered a better day for the Boomers! Some of us headed to Art on the Bridge and Trade Days in downtown Bastrop and had a ball (of course) while others enjoyed the campfire under the tree!

That afternoon, we held our first annual RV Garage Sale...too much fun! It really is true that one man's trash is another man's treasure. I made $4.50 on my trash and spent $4.50 on everyone elses treasures!!! It was a hoot!

David, Tommy, Jay and Ruppr got the fires started for the Annual Garbage Can dinner while all the ladies were in the kitchen getting all food ready to be "potted" and put on the fire! Every year, people are amazed - that much food can cook in 2 inches of water for 1 hour! We ate until we burst at the seams!

The highlight of the evening was the Chinese Auction to raise $$$ for the Boomer Fund. Ya'll outdid yourselves in bidding! We've never laughed so hard in all our lives. There were definitely "treasures" in those bags that should have been out on the garage sale tables but then we wouldn't have had so much fun! Thank you everyone for your generosity, good spirit and downright side=splitting fun! (Thank you Don Allen for suggesting the event!)
Kathy Hewlett - THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for outbidding me on the package with spam!
Until we meet again, stay safe and happy camping! We hope to see you either at Rusk State Park in November, any/all of the Area Gatherings or at the Christmas Party in December. Keep checking the boards!
