Just returned from COE Piney Grove Campground on the TENN-Tom Bay Springs lake. We missed the peak of the Dog Wood blooms while tooling on the Natchez Trace Parkway though it was an easy, pleasant drive. Bay Springs was very near the Trace. The sites are well shaded with pines (very aromatic with the steady light breeze)and hard wood, with the underbrush recently cleared with a controlled burn this past winter. Impact pads of fine, small gravel and asphalt parking pads are well engineered and level, water and 20/30amp service no sewer connection. The facilities are very well maintained and clean, almost manicured in a rustic sort of way. Some of the sites were sorta close, some almost isolated. The bath-houses were dining room clean, even in the day use areas, very squared away. Our rear window looked out into the TENN-TOM, the river traffic was fascinating, I think I may have seen Huck Finn and Jim floating easily down headed toward Mobile,
. Friendly hosts and staff. Lotsa easy walking on numerous interpretive trails. Informative Office area with interesting displays of historical, botanical, anthropologic, and economic development of the area and the impact the waterway is having to the region. Tishomingo State Park (a CCC project in the 1930's thus some very nice examples of stone architecture) is nearby directly off the Trace. All in all, a very restful, entertaining week was had by all. Any one wanna see the slide show of the 1388 digital pictures
we took?
