I have a question about campgrounds around San Antonio that I am sure some of the Texas Boomers can answer....
It looks like I might need to spend a few days in San Antonio at a conference. I would like to know what campgrounds are closest to the Riverwalk.
I would imagine a commute with "Lil Red" (The truck in my avitar) would not be bad. But parking would be a bear! I seem to remember there were a couple places close that a city bus service went to.......
So I am trying to see which would be better. Stay close and use a city bus system, or park the rig at a surounding place and drive "Lil Red" back and forth.
I would be all by my lonesome on that trip if I have to attend that one. So dealing with a public transportation would not be TOO bad.... But if parking "Lil Red" down by the Riverwalk would not be too much hassle..................

Check with Traveling Teacher. She was from there and may be of some help. She doesn't check in here too often so you may need to get her e-mail from the scroll.

Hey Don,
You have several choices if you want to be close to downtown SA. Review both as there is much good and bad out there on both. San Antonio KOA (east side of downtown) and Travelers World RV Resort (southside of downtown). Both claim city bus service to downtown for around a $1.00 each way. Both are about 2-4 miles away from downtown.
Lots of downtown new hotel construction going on and parking can be limited at times depending on what is going on----- if early enough, you can find something. Average parking is around $8-10 dollars a day.
Of course, you have some 5 star rated parks on the northwest side of town, but a lot further out, think driving (heavy traffic) instead of bus. (Blazing Star or Admiralty).
Let me know if I can be of futher help.
Best,

Don,
Here's an RV park that I stayed at over the Christmas holiday. It's inside the city limits on the west side. I'm not sure about public transportation, but the park is near expressways & should be a "relatively" easy drive to the riverwalk.

Thanks yall!
It is not "Set in stone" yet, but I want to get my ducks in a row just in case. It looks like it will be the conf. in San Antonio or the one in Jackson, MS.
If I have MY way, it will be the one in San Antonio. More interesting stuff around there. Not to mention a bunch of fine Texas Boomers in the area that happen to call that area home I may get to visit.

I have stayed at the Travelers World RV Resort (southside of downtown)twice 1999 and 2003 and was pleased both times. The bus stop is directly across the street. We took a vehicle into town only once. There is a parking lot downtown about 2 blks. from the River Walk but you have to get there very early to get a space. After that first time we took the bus every other time - much better. The park is old and there are a lot of permanent residents there but the pool was clean and I was told the showers were good too. The staff was very nice and when we arrived at night our space number was posted on a board at the front and we had no trouble finding it. Use a water pressure regulator there - their pressure is very high. They have a nice park store. We were pleased with this campground for our purposes.

We've stayed at 2 RV resorts. I don't remember the name of the first one ("Green" might have been in the name) but the second was Blazing Star....very, very nice and right off 1604 close to Sea World (more northwest of SA). It wouldn't be too convenient to downtown though.

I too have stayed a Travelers World and found it to be exactly as Barbara S. says. I even remember at check-in being asked if I had a regulator to compensate for the water pressure. All in all we spent a couple of very relaxed days. I would consider returning to this park.
