Sandy, sounds like a great idea to get together. Count us in.
As for location, a lot of places have a separate room to handle groups. What area of town do you want to look at?

I'm hoping as well as everyone else that Rayford has everything back up by Oct 25, because unless it has been canceled, we are going to be there for the chili cook-off. We are then taking the camper to Livingston for a couple of months to use it to stay in for deer season. Would still like to get together for the supper if the cook off changes. Keep us up to date. After IKE, electricity was worth whatever the going rate was..... believe me. We have all been so spoiled with Ben Franklin's little discovery..........take care everyone.

Larry, myself and the puppies are all good, were without power for 9 days, fence is down in some areas and leaning in others, puppies can't run around like normal in and out their doggy door so they are not very happy but are coping and doing a great job.
I was so excited Sunday evening, 9/21/08 while unloading ice from my trunk while holding my little flash light and heading out to the back yard to fill up the generator to settle into the RV in the back yard for the night as Larry was working nights at the plant, when up above me in the garage there was a strange light on. All of a sudden in the neighborhood I hear the cheer of children in unison say "WE HAVE POWER" as they rode their bikes in the road. It was so cute and I got the biggest grin on my face, I went in the house turned my A/C on 70 degrees, turned on the TV and even had cable tv, it was an exciting night.
If I never hear the hum of a generator again I will be happy! But it saved us from having to suffer.
I think a night out on the town would be a GREAT idea! Keep us informed!

Eddie -
If the chili cook-off is at Rayford the weekend of the 25th, we can move the get-together to celebrate at another time..depending on how many are going to be going to Rayford.
Ken -
I'm looking for something in mid-Houston - Loop 610 area or open to suggestions if anyone knows of a particular restaurant. We have Boomers from Woodlands to Alvin, from east side to west side...so I figure the Loop is a good area to start.

Sandy,
Not trying to steal the night. I almost forgot about the cook-off until I checked my calendar. I don't know how many are planning to come to the cook-off. Don't change for our sake. On that Sunday we will be taking the camper to Livingston where it will stay for 2 months or so during deer season. That will be our last camping trip until after the first of January. Looking forward to seeing everyone again. Take care.

Count me in too! If the chili cook-off is at Rayford on 10/25 maybe you could change the date for the dinner and Jay could organize something for us to go to the chili cook-off too. Just a suggestion.

TxLawDog -
Between Jay and I, we'll come up with a good date so everyone can attend the POST HURRICANE NIGHT OUT - I had no idea of the chili cookoff date at RC.
Annette -
You go girl! Glad ya'll will be coming. I'm sure we'll fill some place up quickly with all us Texas Boomers who need a night to celebrate and commiserate!
We'll find a place - set a date - and have a party!
Sandy

Sandy, one of the palces a technical orginization used to meet was Jax Grill, on Shepherd, just south of I-10. They had a meeting room off tot he side that we got to use fro free if we bought the food. Not a fancy place, burgers and typical grill fare.
Just a thought and my 2 cents worth. Add 3 cents to that and you have a nickel.

The chili cookoff IS at Rayford Crossing on 10/25. Right now, we are still planning to be there because of the model boat regatta in The Woodlands. We will likely have a Saturday night activity with the model boat group but hope to arrive on Friday night and will have some time to meet with any Boomers who also happen to be around.

Thanks for info Ken and Charlie - I'll look at the calendar for another date and call Jax Grill and see what the potential is!
Ken...did Susan go to the dr! I came down with whatever got her (I knew I shouldn't have hugged her!!!). Went to the dr today and now have a bacterial infection settled in my chest!
I'm headed to Ohio on Thursday and will return Monday! If I'm off the boards tomorrow, you'll know why!!!!

Sandy, she is strongly opinionated...ie. hard headed. She did not go to the Dr., but is better any way.
Have a safe trip.

They told me at the doctors office yesterday, the have been flooded with upper respiratory illness since IKE hit - airborn stuff ingested while cleaning up, etc etc etc. Mine, I think, might have come from cleaning out the refrigerator for the 2nd time. I made the MISTAKE of putting lemons in there for over a week (hoping to control/eliminate odor) - ha! They turned to dry, mold dust...which I'm sure I inhaled. BIG LESSON LEARNED! Any little bacteria I breathe in automatically goes straight to my bronchial system.
