Thanks for the inquiry as to our status. We lost the downstairs of both our beach houses, so there goes the rental for at least a month or two. The RV lot fared fine, just moved the shed a few feet. Will be in the market for several washers, dryers, refrigerators, and water heaters. It took over two weeks before we could begin the clean up, just now starting it. We have rented an RV spot in Hitchcock so we can cross over daily to get things back together. Dottie is cancer free according to the last report, goes back to MDA next week for a check up. Regards to all.

Get well Sandy. Have a safe trip and take care of yourself and don't let it get worse. I'm sure there have been all kinds of doctor visits after IKE. Tetanus shots just in case, cuts, scrapes, broken bones, allergies flaring up from all the mold/mildew, and in my case poison ivy reaction after helping a neighbor cut up some trees. Funny how it never bothered me before, maybe I'm getting older and not as immune to those things like I used to be. Everyone take care and hope to see you soon.

Hi Guys, Better late than never. Glad to hear all our Boomer Friends got through the ordeal more or less GOOOOOD!!!. Leo and I are doing well. No major damage, just lots of junk--limbs down, etc.

It's just always good to know that friends are getting along well and doing okay. God bless you all. Keep your powder dry and hope to see you all soon. Love Leo and Shirley

Hi from the strangers from Clear Lake (SE of Houston). Just saw this post, so thought I would let you know about our situation.

We were in one of the mandatory evacuation zip codes, so we evac'd with the trailer. We went west all the way to Uvalde, 75 miles west of San Antonio. We came back the following Monday.

We live about three miles northwest of the salt water bay called Clear Lake. It runs off the main bay system near Houston. The neighbors said that the eye came right over our neighborhood.

There was no damage at all to our house or garage. not even a missing shingle! We apparantly lost power... for about 3 minutes we were told. The yard was full of downed linbs, none bigger than your arm. We were very lucky.

We need to get back to a Boomer rally soon before we forget what you all look like!

We went to Michigan and New York State this summer. I started a travel blog for relatives, lots of pictures.

Dutch and Sandy,

Glad you made it through the storm OK. Seems that to most of us it was an inconvienece more than anything and no real damage.

We have talked to a number of folks that rode the storm out at home and they are saying...Never Again, they will leave next time.

We just noticed this post. Better late than never I guess.

Living in Romayor between Beaumont and Houston, we were in a mandatory evacuation area but they didn't put out the notice until Friday when the storm hit on Friday night so it was too late to go anywhere. We hunkered down and prepared as much as we could.

We were without power 11 days. We were fortunate in that we had a generator and found gasoline not too far away. Thank God the weather was cooperating by the temperatures being low enough to not have to run the generator 24 hours a day.

Our house had roof damage from the high winds of the hurricane and spawned tornados. Our well and well house were knocked down. Our greenhouse is only half there. The deck off the back was torn up. Our storage building roof is completely missing and we still haven't found it! Top it all off with trees down and limbs everywhere. But you know what.. all that can be replaced. We are fine, the kids are fine, and our pets are fine. Life is good.

Billy had to work about 18 hours days for 2 1/2 weeks after the storm. He finally got to take some time off. He was exhausted!

Sorry we missed the cookoff. I wish I had seen it because we would have been there!

We miss everyone! Hope to see you all soon.

Carla -

Sounds like Ike did his number in your area as well - a lot more damage on the east side of Houston than we got here on the west side....although it was bad all over. We were w/o power for 14 days...sure changed my life!

I agree, sticks and bricks can be replaced, but lives lost are irreplaceable. I'm thankful ya'll, the family and the pets came through it okay.

Can't wait to see ya'll for a much needed fun time!

Sandy
