Visited with Dwight about 20 minutes today. He is still awfully confused but he was using both arms today though the left one seemed to be only about 60%. He still can't eat food yet as he hasn't regained control of his swallowing.
He looked very good, was alert and had good color. He knew me right away and immediately started talking about RVing.
I think he has a real good chance of recovering quiet a lot of his motion back with time. He certainly plans and wants to get to camping again. Let'sa pray hard fore both he and Joanne for Dwight's full recovery..

Thank you for the wonderful update on Dwight. Had been wondering how things were going. Did not realize just how bad things were.
Joanne will need all our prayers to muster up strength to handle the load. I'm with you Don.

Hi Don,
Sounds like Dwight Terry has had a stroke. Please bring me uptodate as to when and where he is. I did not know about it and I don't think some of the others from the RV.NET group know about it. I would like to let the others know about him.
Thanks
Jim

Jim,
We got the following email from Sandy Creekmore on March 19 about Dwight's apparent stroke.
"Greetings Texas Boomers -
I received an email this weekend from Joanne Terry to let the Texas Boomers know that her husband, Dwight, had two strokes this past week.
The first was mild, but the second one has affected his left arm and leg. He'll be going to rehab at a facility in the Woodlands for 4 to 6 weeks, but the doctors are not optimistic that he'll recover well or not well enough to continue to RV.
I know the Terry's would be very appreciative of hearing from their Texas Boomer friends. Cards can be mailed to their address
11549 White Oak Hills - Willis, Tx 77378
936-856-8645
I will keep you posted as I hear from Joanne and lets continue to keep them both in our thoughts and prayers during this time
Sandy"
Dwight is undergoing therapy and recovery here:
The Woodlands Healthcare Center
4650 S. Panther Creek Dr.
The Woodlands, Texas 77381
Room 400A Phone 281-363-3535

Hi JimToo and many others -
Rusty and I visited with Dwight on Saturday and the report was much the same. Dwight is in good spirits. His mental faculties haven't been affected one bit by the strokes, but it does take him a little time to get the responses out. He's alert and raring to go camping! His mental attitude is going to play a lot in his recovery.
One of the things he was MOST happy about was the wall of cards that friends and family have continued to send him. He showed it us and it was obvious that it means the world to him to receive mail to hear our words of encourgement.
Please put the address above on your calendar and send him something each week or send directly to the address of the Healthcare Care Center:
The Woodlands Heathcare Center
Room 400A
4650 S. Panther Creek
The Woodlands, Texas 77381

Ted and I visited with Dwight, Joanne and their granddaughter Ashley today at the Health Center. Dwight knew us, was exercising his left arm with a weight and complaining he is hungry! He is still not allowed food until he passes the swallowing test. We sat out in the courtyard at a round table and he kept telling Joanne to get a waitress! Poor guy. Ted promised him a cheeseburger just as soon as he is allowed.
They are grateful they have Ashley. She drives Joanne from Willis to The Woodlands each day and helps with Dwight's care. The emotional and physical support is important for Joanne.
All your cards are hung on the wall but there's room for more. Let's keep the Terry family in our prayers for a recovery that allows them to join us on the road again.
Donna

I received an update email this morning from Joanne and she is so upset because the Social Worker is telling her that they are sending Dwight HOME!
Yes, he has made progress, but there is no way they can send him home so early! He's doing better but still on the feeding tube and cath. Joanne says he still requires two nurses to help him get in bed. The physical toll it will take on Joanne, if they send him home too early, is going to be very demanding.
Please email Joanne and give her words of encouragement.
Sandy

The attitude of the insurance is to roll them out the door as soon as you are breathing pretty well. We had this fight with my Mother when she was in the hospital and there was no way anyone in the family could begin to provide the level of care she needed. In any case, they managed to get her into an extended care or rehab facility which Medicare/Medicad would pretty well pay for I believe it was 100 days. Need to ask them to look into that aspect. But be sure and let them know, that you can not provide the care required and need assistance.

We went to see Dwight yesterday (Saturday) and he was about the same. He is very alert, but complaining about his paralyzed left leg. Joanne was not there, so we didn't get any report from her, but he does look good.
