Fontana Village Resort
Highway 28
Fontana Dam, NC 28733
800-849-2258 or 828-498-2211

Appalachian Campers

April 26 Thurs. thru April 29 Sun.
$35.00 per night

Site #
Colette and Joe : 20
Richard and Sylvia, Hitchhiker 19
Al and Barb, Sportsman 18
Jim and Sandy : 6
RV Wizard, Mike and Amy : 7

These are the tenative site assignments
So come directly to these sites, we will get there close to noon on Thursday and if there are any changes, I will still call on Wensday and confirm these sites, and post accordingly.

Itinerary:
Thursday: arrive, set up; Food, pot luck
Soup (I'm bringing Potato soup)
Cheese crackers, dips and stuff.

Friday: Later arrivals
Explore, This would be a good time
to tour the Dam at the top,
Timberlake Toss game will
be set up.
Food, Host dinner, hamburgers,
hot dogs and all the fixens.

Saturday: Boat ride (details below)
Food: pot luck Ribs and yummy
stuff to go with it (Al will pre
cook the ribs in a roaster and then
we will finish them with barbecue
sauce on the open fire.
Al is bringing a few slabs, and so
Joe and I.
Bond fire (please bring wood)
Chinese Auction- dig out those
zany things that like to go camping

Sunday: Caravan to Joyce Kilmer (bring sack
lunch)
Evening: Pot luck - anything

Monday: Good bye's.

This is an incredible campground on the river that the Dam outflows to.
We camp right at the bottom of the Dam. It is awesome, and the river is beautiful and wide. The sites are very spacious, the cg is flat, just the right amount of trees, you feel like your in a different world.

It is located on Hwy 28 in western NC. If you would follow a map to Bryson City then go west to # 28 to the end of the lake, you would be on 4 lane Hwys except for the last 10 miles or so and those miles are curvy but good.

GO DIRECTLY TO THE CAMPGROUND, the check in area is very difficult. You can park and go back in your non-camping vehicle, or we can take you, for registering. I will get a list of sites and meet you on arrival at the cg.
Maps are on the Fontana web site, link attached.

Cell phone reception is not good but we did get Satellite reception.
Fontana Village has a small convince store and a restaurant and gas station.

I have tentatively reserved all 10 spaces, they are all 30amp with water. They have a dump at the beginning of the CG road. (we have a blue tank if someone is without).

We would all make our own reservations and the sites are 35.00 per night. (Well worth it for the beauty)

Things to do,
Self tour the Dam;
Explore the west end of the GSMNP;

See Joyce Kilmer national forest, which I highly recommend, we should caravan to it;

Rent a boat ride tour of the lake, Tour pontoon boat goes out at 2pm daily, cost $15.00 per person, goes for (an hour or so) (mountain time ) ) We will pre book this for whoever wants to join in.

I inquired about fishing rules:
NC fishing license require = $10 at marina, for 10days. (if you don't have one)
Plus a trout license = $10 at marina.
If you love to fish you will be mighty tempted at this location.

The Dam, boat, all things in the village are handicap accessible.

I am open to any change in the itinerary and menus, all suggestions are welcome.
If you need our cell # we would be happy to email them, but as stated, reception is very ify at best. If we had any problems we would use Fontana Village's # 800-849-2258 and they would help us.

Appalachian Spring is a wonderful time !!

Oh my!!

As I've told several of you, I have very fond memories of staying in the rental houses in Fontana Village for something like 13 summers in a row....My parents loved the place and our family with two or three other families always stayed a week in August...
I've been inside to the bottom of the dam, not even sure if they let you do that anymore as a tour.

I wish I could feel comfortable with getting the BBT down in there,as that would be a wonderful trip.

Having lost my Dad one year ago tomorrow, I all but wonder of the timing of this message...
If that's not a sign.....

Will have to do some research on this and get back to you....If nothing else, THANK YOU for a good memory of my Mom and Dad.

Bob, If you rig is all fixed up. You will have an easier drive than us, because you handle better, and we do it fine, absolutly no problems. The camp ground is very roomy and easy to deal with, can handle any of us.
Sure would love to have you join us.

Wow! We took the kids to Fontana years ago and rented a cabin. Loved the place. If there was a campground back then I don't remember it since it was in our pre-camping days.

If you don't mind extending the boundary of the Appalachians Campers down to north central Florida , we'll make our reservations tomorrow! And just so I'm clear is it through Sunday April 29, meaning leave on Monday, or it it leaving on Sunday?

I Asked for Thursday night through Sunday night, leave on Monday. Said some will want to do that and others won't. Up to you.
It will be a few days before they get the paper work to me and then I have to get it back to them so they can get it to Reservations so I would Wait till I confirm the Information has been properly placed to avoid confusion.
We will be very happy for one and all to join us.
Sense they are opening early for us, they have no other reservations at this time and will not have those dates posted until we finish the correspondence.
They said we would make February 15, 2007,the cut off date for our reservations.
They will require one night deposit and there will be a refund date for cancellations.

I will keep you posted.

Dave and JoAnn, do I have the right memory? Were you next to us at Meadows of Dan? and did you go to Alaska?

If so, was it a good trip? Sure hope we get to do that very soon.

Glad you are excited about Fontana Dam.

Colette,it sounds wonderful but afraid we won't be able to make it. We are leaving somewhere around mid April for our BIG TRIP across country and have no idea where we'll be at that time.We will be celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary April 29,somewhere on the road!

Some great pics on a nicely done website Dave and Jo Ann and THANKS for the mention of iRV2.

We're way early into the planning stages for next year, especially with one still in school, but I'd dearly love to see Fontana again and this would be an excellent opportunity.
