This is an incredible campground on the river that the Dam outflows to.
We camp right at the bottom of the Dam. It is awesome, and the river is beautiful and wide. The sites are very spacious,the cg is flat,just the right amount of trees, you feel like your in a different world.
It is located on Hwy 28 in western NC. If you would follow a map to Bryson City then go west to # 28 to the end of the lake, you would be on 4 lane Hwys except for the last 10 miles or so and those miles are curvy but good.
GO DIRECTLY TO THE CAMPGROUND, the check in area is very difficult. You can park and go back in your non-camping vehicle, or we can take you, for registering. I will get a list of sites and meet you on arrival at the cg.
Maps are on the Fontana web site, link attached.
Cell phone reception is not good but we did get Satellite reception.
Fontana Village has a small convince store and a restaurant and gas station.
I have tentatively reserved all 10 spaces, they are all 30amp with water. They have a dump at the beginning of the CG road. (we have a blue tank if someone is without).
We would all make our own reservations and the sites are 35.00 per night. (Well worth it for the beauty)
Things to do,
Self tour the Dam;
Explore the west end of the GSMNP;
See Joyce Kilmer national forest, which I highly recommend, we should caravan to it;
Rent a boat ride tour of the lake, Tour pontoon boat goes out at 2pm daily, cost $15.00 per person, goes for (an hour or so) (mountain time

) ) We will pre book this for whoever wants to join in.
I inquired about fishing rules:
NC fishing license require = $10 at marina, for 10days. (if you don't have one)
Plus a trout license = $10 at marina.
If you love to fish you will be mighty tempted at this location.
The Dam, boat, all things in the village are handicap accessible.
I am open to any change in the itinerary and menus, all suggestions are welcome.
If you need our cell # we would be happy to email them, but as stated, reception is very ify at best. If we had any problems we would use Fontana Village's # 800-849-2258 and they would help us.
Appalachian Spring is a wonderful time !!
