Just got back from the Blue Ridge Mountains. We stayed at The Rv resorts of America and had a great time with the family. A little cool at night but it was quite the experience. The views where just awesome. We rented a car for the day and drove the Blue ridge mountain parkway to Cherokee. Here is a pic of the wife by the Coach.

Andy,

Thanks for the pictures. We drove through that area a couple of weeks ago enroute from the Greensboro Monaco rally to Pigeon Forge, TN. Leaves were just starting to turn then. We've often camped a little further north in the Shennendoah Mountain area. The whole ridge from Virginia on down is filled with beautiful places to go.

Beautiful pictures and would love to visit. What is the degree of difficulty negotiating with a 40 MH? The last picture looks like it would keep you on your toes. It also looks like there could be some low branches.

We had made the decision to keep the motorhome parked in the RV resort and rented a car for the day to travel the Blue Ridge mountain parkway to Cherokee. The Blue Ridge mountain parkway is quite long. We were on it for about 2hrs and 45 minutes of beautiful scenery. Now we own a tow dolly for future trips (picked that up in NC). The mountain parkway climbs up over 6000 feet with roads that just wrap in and out and about the mountain and mountain tops. There are look out spots where you can pull into and I don't see any problem with taking a 40ft motor coach through this parkway if thats what you wanted to do. If you decide that you want to view the area and not stay in the RV resort, you can park your coach at the Walmart in Bravard, rent a car and be on your merry way (Enterprise rental car is in the same plaza). There are many beautiful waterfalls along this highway trip as well. There is also the fish hatchery where they bread rainbow trout in 100 foot long pools that are about 2 feet deep (pretty cool and the kids got a kick out of it). Here is a link to the rv resort. Check out the pictures. It's hard to image, but this place is on top of a mountain and it is as nice in person as is shown in the pictures.

Check these pics out that are featured on there site as well. http://www.outdoor-resorts.com/bluer...torcycles.html

Andy,

This is true with the exception of the last few miles before you reach Cherokee. There are two tunnels along that section that will be a problem for any RV over 11 feet high.

Staying at Outdoor Resorts sounds like a great idea.

Actually not, unless you are rubbing the sides of the tunnel. We are just over 12 feet and have no problems with the tunnels. I believe the 11 feet you are referring to might be the vertical portion of the sides of the tunnel. The roof actually is higher as it arches over.

I disagree. We just drove the complete parkway 3 weeks ago and had no problems with any of the tunnels. The tunnels are no problem.

Gulp, just looking at the pictures of the tunnels scare the devil out of me!! It would be my luck to meet another rig coming from the opposite direction - it would get pretty tight in a hurry in the middle. Think I'll tour it in a car.

All tunnels will easily accommodate 2 RVs. But, being afraid is a personal matter.

Tom N...
Your rig is not as tall as a lot of the DPs that are on the road. According to your rig's fact sheet - your rig is only 11'5".
Our DP's spec sheet shows it being over a foot taller.

I am not saying you are wrong... just that other people may have a right to be wary....
