Hi. We live in Savannah. Having said that, I will also say that we don't really do much camping around here since it's like camping in our backyard. We have camped at Skidaway Island State Park once and will be there again this Thanksgiving. It is a very nice state park. Most, if not all, of the sites are pull-through. I think you choose your own site from those that haven't been occupied after you have checked in with the office. If you choose to go here, I would call the park directly after making your reservations and explain to them that you will be coming in a group. Maybe they can help you with your sites.
There is also a campground on Tybee Island (Savannah Beach). We stayed there once too. The site we were put in was very narrow, but they do have larger sites. We were in a pop-up at the time. There again, I would advise talking to someone about your group.
Those are the two closest places to town. You are wise not to choose Belair Woods. I have also read bad reviews, but not about the park. The bad reviews were about the owner with the bad attitude.
There is a KOA in Richmond Hill, GA that is pretty decent and another campground further south off of I-95 near Townsend, GA called Harmony Lake that is nice also, but they are not really that close to Savannah. You would be at least 45 minutes or more away.
Hope this helps.
