I do not know about your area but some of our gas stations are running out of gas here in Orlando. My son called from SC today and it went up .50 from morning to afternoon. They are now paying 3.22 for regular.

I do not know if people are filling up because of the pricing or if we are going to have a shortage already.

How is it in your area?

QT, a large chain of convenience and gas stations are limiting to five gallons in Atlanta area. One station near us (Athens) has raised prices to 4.99. Folks are getting a little crazy about the pipelines shutting down. Colonial and Plantation both run thru this area. Doraville area of Atlanta has most of the petroleum storage for the metro area said they have about a 10 day supply.
Probably close to the same for the Athens area where we live.
Sorta looks like the 70's with the lines at the pumps in this area.

Just heard on the news that gas in Atlanta is $5.50/gal for regular, and yes they expect supplies to get low. Expected to spread over all the states really quickly. I know we should feel blessed that we were not in the path of Katrina, but this will still affect us, especially those of us with businesses to run.

A friend of mine down here from Wisconsin filled up today and paid $3.099 and was glad to be able to get it. I noticed several local stations with bags over the pump nozzles earlier today. I think it'll get much, much worse as supplies dry up.

Hmm. Florida seems a long way away from Oakdale, Wisconsin. We're about 1200 miles away from home. We can go at least 1000 miles on a full tank, so we're close to being able to get home again. Larry is starting to wonder if we should go ahead and come home now. I think it will work out. I still don't want to bring the rig to Florida in September when we don't have its garage built yet. Thank heavens the new roof is finally on the house!
Oh yes, Wal-Mart gas station is charging $2.99 this afternoon. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

I live in South Ga. and about half of the local stations ran out of fuel today and noone knows when the next delivery will be available. It has been crazy here.
I work for the Fire Dept. and called earlier today to make sure that we had our emergency vehicle fuel set aside so that we can continue to respond. Fortunately, the local oil company has supposedly take care of so many gallons restricted for us.
I really do not see the supplies getting back for another 4 weeks or so.

We pulled into Myrtle Beach at about 2:00pm and paid 2.749 and filled up our tank for our stay here in Ocean Lakes. We didn't use a lot of fuel and on my way here from Flat Rock, NC & I forced myself to maintain 55 MPH and no more. On straight and level stretches I was able to get 8.3 MPG.

Just about an hour ago Colleen and I went back to the same station to fill up the car. You guessed it, the price went up to 2.999 per gallon "and I was {sorta} glad to pay it" BP stations in and around MYR from Florence toward the shore are getting 3.229.

As of this writing most all the stations in Myrtle Beach are priced over 2.999 per gallon and most are 3.219 and up. Quite a few mom & pop gas stations or independent stations had plastic bags on their pumps.

So I'm sitting here with about 75 gallons of gas that could soon go to $5.00 per gallon as one station patron confided in me.

Good news is that the east coast pipeline should be on-line as I write this or I certainly hope so.

One thing that we're not going to be able to change is the pain and suffering of the gulf coast people but we can at least try to help. Go on-line to Red Cross.org or contribute cash to a charitable organization and specify Katerina victims relief fund on the donation. Do what you can.

Do you guys think we should make a collaborative effort here on iRV2? I know that Don Fauntleroy must certainly have been effected plus our good friend Ed Gray.

You all know at least one person that has been effected by Hurricane Katerina.

I filled up yesterday at the Exon in town for 2.60. Today on the way to work the same station was 3.26! .66 in one day? I filled up the truck today (and five six gal jugs ) for 2.75 the gal at this station said they would be 3.50 before the weekend and $.00 + by next weekend. I guess this will be the last blast for this summer! Scotty

Heard about this on the way home tonight...if you see stations getting greedy, you can report them at http://gaswatch.energy.gov/ to report them- they will forward the info to the FTC for followup.

BTW...I bought diesel for $2.859 on Tuesday- the same station is at $3.399 today...I have reported them (and we're not anywhere near the Gulf Coast).

I feel for EVERYONE on the Southeast...God Bless You and we hope the best, given the situation.

Sean

Report them for what? The cost of getting the fuel, if they can even get it, and the demand is what is driving the price of it up so fast. There is nothing to report. If it was "price gouging", it would be isolated. It is not isolated, it is all over. This is what happens when panic and frenzy sets in and causes the public to start buying every bit of a product they can get their hands on. The price goes up until the demand for it levels off, then the price falls back down until the demand increases again.
It is the same thing that has happened with property values, except property is not a consumable good.
All we can do is dig in and get ready for tough times the next few weeks. Don't drive to the store but once a week, carpool, take your lunch to work so you're not driving around all day, etc. I know this would cause a change of "habit" and disrupt peoples lifestyle, but I think it is necessary for us to survive in the future.
Chris
