I know that we have had great weather for the past several weeks and a great fall. But...dogoneit the last couple of days of cloudy misty cold have gotten to me. Ms C says we can't go anyplace until after Christmas and that depressed me too. Thinking about heading to the South for a few days either after Christmas or early January.
Give me some suggestions for warmer, sunnier climes in the Sunshine State for a few days. I would ask about the entire Gulf Coast area, but figure anything west of Tallahassee (sp?) might be filled with evacuees and volunteers helping the hurricane victims recover.

Hey there Doc. Know what you mean, it was icy up here all day. We are headed to Bremen Indiana in a few weeks for Christmas. All my family will gather there at my son's this year. Look out snow here we come.
About going south, we liked the KOA at Alligator Point, just south of Tallahassee. Not a well known area, might have openings, but it might not be far enough south for you. We enjoyed. You can watch the sun come up and go down from the same place. It was neat. Not a fancy place or area, but it is on the gulf, the the area is interesting to explore.

I know what Y'all mean. We are ready to go somewhere. I need to wax the fiver but I cannot seem to get around to it. I did wax the front cap and that is all. Our next trip we are going to see Dianne's sister in Mississippi. After that we are going down to Florida. All this is going on after Christmas, a long time away.

Diandtom,

Where in Fl are you going to be? Sandy and I will be staying on the east coast, just south of Daytona for the month of March..

We are going sometime in Janurary. We will probably stay at Bulow (Flagler Beach) for a few days and then over the Rock Crusher Canyon at Crystal River. I would like to go to the RV show in Tampa Jan. 18-22. We are then planning to go see Dianne's sister in Quitman, Mississippi.

Hey Tom,

Bulow KOA was the place we used our first RV back in '72. It was a used 18' Coachmen TT. We lived in Daytona Beach at the time and it was a short ride up there. Is Bulow still a KOA or did the state park system take it over?

We used to visit the Bulow Plantation ruins, some interesting history of the Seminole Indian wars there.

(Did you get the envelope I mailed you?)

Thanks, Richard I got it. Not sure about Bulow but it is not a KOA. I looked at the website and it looks like the state owns it.

diandtom> Interesting you mention Bulow. We stayed there last winter during an ice storm here. Is this the park in Flagler county with the long white board fence near the entrance? We sort of liked the place. Guy there told us to check back in the spring if we thought it was quiet....said Bike Week in Daytona livened up the situation there considerably.

We have heard a lot about Rock Crusher and Ms C (well me too!) is wanting to see if a real "canyon" exists in Florida. Not sure of date yet, but we plan to check it out in January. If we happen to be there at the same time, I'll buy you guys lunch or dinner or breakfast or something.

Rock Crusher was a old rock quarry they made into a campground. We really liked it there. Bulow is nice but it starting to run down some. We use to stay at Belvery's Beach campground until the price went to almost $60 a day.

Tom,

It was "run down" in the seventies, we stopped going there in the 80's after KOA started adding extra $$ for each kid, elect, and sewer. We had 3 kids and by the time all the 'ad ons' were pit on, it quickly got out of our price range.

We got to liking Blue Spring State Park a lot better and would go there when we could get a few days off work. The kids loved to see the manatees swimming in the Blue Spring run If you get a chance, go view the manatees in the morning on a cold winter day. You'll enjoy it.

Another one we liked was Tomoka State Park, along a fish filled lagoon where the Timucuan Indians used to live. There's good canoing, boating, and fishing there. You can also stroll along their nature trail through a hardwood hammock that was once an indigo field and there's a museum with wildlife displays, Native American artifacts, and exhibits about Florida´s history.

Have fun at Bulow, if you get time ride through these others. You might want to stay at one on another trip to Florida.

I believe we stayed at Bulow Plantation last year, but CRS has a hold of me now! It was not a long distance from Tomoka because we passed the Tomoka out exploring one day. I recall the road we were on was surrounded by heavy woods and looked like a jungle after a B-52 stike in the Nam days. Someone told us one of the hurricanes did that. Glad we don't have severe winds like that here!
We may check Tomoka while there. We sort of like to wander around and visit different places and sample local seafoods.

Doc,

You might want to try the Dixie Crossroads Seafood Restaurant about 50 miles south of Tomoka in Titusville. Great place for seafood!

This is the Bulow I was talking about, don't recall it being a KOA. We really try to to avoid KOAs due to some poor treatment in the past.
Richard, we will definitely try the food there. Can't ever recall being to Titusville, but many years ago I was all over Florida.
