Help finding a campground(s) Fl, Ga or Al

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a place to take my family (me, wife & two teens) that's one days drive or less (450 mile/max) from Central Fl. We like fishing, biking, hiking or even historic sites (will pull a car). Anyone have a suggestion we could consider? I'd sure appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

How about RVC Outdoors at Pine Mountain, Ga. Pine Mountain#

Convenient to Little White House state historic site, Callaway Gardens (hiking, fishing, bike riding, butterfly house, lake/beach, etc, etc; numerous antique shops, as well as Wild Animal Safari.

I installed 2 / 120 volt pancake style fans (high volume air flow) that blow straight up behind the fridge. Found on Amazon. Those helped quite a bit. Try and park so your RV is not parked with the sun shining on the side your fridge is on. If you do, make sure your awning is out. Especially in the afternoon when the sun seems to be the hottest. Also added a couple of 12 volt fans inside the fridge on the fins to keep the air flow going and ice from forming on the fins. Just do a search for "rv refrigerator fans" on e-bay, they will come right up. And one last thing, look where the thermister is located and move it up or down a 1/4 inch or so from its present location. Sometimes that will help. On our Dometic on the inside where the thermister is located there is a > on the side of the fridge inside wall which I am under the assumption is where the thermister should be for the best cooling. And one last thing, don't over stock the fridge as that will block the air circulation.

?????? Huh????? LOL! Someone responded to the wrong thread.!

Try 'musicliveshere.com' it is the web site for the Spirit of the Suwanee Music Park, Live Oak, Florida. Fishing on the Suwanee, horse/cart trails - good for hiking too, multiple bat houses to watch thousands of bats come out at dusk! Near to the Steven Foster State park. There is a tractor museum or display in the area too. Other stuff to be discovered on the net nearby and park has pool, mini golf, Frisbee golfcourse, on site store, canoe rentals and more.

Wow, there are so many! I will assume you already know about great parks in CFL like Fort DeSoto.

For beach parks we like Point St Joseph and Topsail State Parks in the Panhandle. In south GA there Seminole Lake SP.

Many, many others, but these we have really enjoyed.

Enjoy!

Bill you're right about so many. I should have been more explicit: we've been to many CG's in north Fl except the pan handle. I've love to find a new spot or two in south to mid Ga or Al. Also since I'd be booking late I think most state campgrounds would be out of reach (plan to travel the week of July 28th through Aug 4).

Thanks again everyone!

Two less touristy thoughts. St. Marys, GA is near a submarine base and there is a rather neat (at least to me) submarine restaurant there. There is a ferry to one of the barrier islands for beach and sun. A good place to stay there is A Big Wheel RV Park.

The Forgotten Coast of Florida, around Carrabelle, is another favorite area of ours. Carabelle Beach RV Resort is nice, as is Ho Hum RV Park (which is adults only). Lots of fishing, wildlife, hiking, etc. Good restaurants.

Check out the COE parks around the FL, GA, and AL borders: Eastbank, Cotton Hill, Hardridge. Only one we haven't been to is Cotton Hill and that one gets high marks from others. We also like Kolomoki Mounds State Park near Blakely, GA. All of those places are really warm this time of the year. If it was me, I'd stretch that 450 mile limit and head for the GA/NC mountains.

Half Dimes,
You may be right about stretching past 450 miles and my wife agrees. It's smoking hot here today and I know we enjoy the cooler weather. We've camped before near Brasstown Bald and it can still be a bit hot at 2600 feet above. I'm all ears if you've got more suggestions. I plan on referencing this thread for future trip as well so all recommendations are appreciated. I find searching for new places difficult with out an actual end user referring it.

wardy, the weather cooled for a while in N Georgia and we began having rain. Now it is heating up again and the rain is continuing. I guess that equals steam. That said, we still have some pretty neat and some shady CGs in N Georgia. Try Turner's Corner ou US 129 N of Cleveland Ga. Right on a trout stream
Or perhaps Moccasin Creek SP near Helen. Shady and on the shores of Lake Burton. No sewer, but dump station.
River Vista on the Highlands, NC highway in Dillard, Ga. Resort type place with a couple of pools and view of falls on the side of a southfacing mountain
Georgia Mtn CG in Hiawassee on Lake Chatuge.
Riverbend CG in Hiwassee on the Hiawassee River and backwaters of Lake Chatuge. Very nice and clean, but not a lot of breeze in the valley.
Stretch the weekend into 4 or 5 days and come on up

Try Jekyll Island State Park near Brunswick, GA. It has everything you listed.

Jon
...or, in the same area, Blythe Island Regional. Its a county park. To each his own but I prefer it to the State Park where I thought the sites were a bit crowded.

I agree that Jekyll Island is a great place to explore though.
