A friend of mine is trying to plan a trip to Florida's west coast. He was asking about campgrounds for him, his wife and two kids. The cities he would like to hit are Bradenton, Sarasoda, Fort Myers and Everglades City.
So, what campgrounds would the Boomers recomend in those areas???

Hey there. While I am not a Boomer, I'll recommend these....
http://venicecampground.com/
http://www.floridastateparks.org/inf...vcampsites.htm
as for state parks, try:
oscar scherer state park. - Sarasota
lake manatee state park. - Bradenton
If they are looking for somewhere else, I would recommend Fort De Soto Park in St. Petersburg. They have waterfront camping, boat launch, fishing piers, beaches and bunches of things to do. This is a county park but is nicer than most state parks.
http://pubtitlet.co.pinellas.fl.us/p.../ParksMain.jsp (for reservations)
http://fortdesoto.com/ (park information)
thanks for letting me chime in!

Travel west coast of FL often. I hate to say, but Venice campground may be a bit unkempt. We were down Sept. 2002 (my aunt died) and when we pulled in the grass was at least 9-12" high. The mosquitos were really bad, and they never mowed while we were there. If anyone else has had a good experience there, please post. Also Shady Acres Campground in Fort Myers on Rt 41 is really nice. They are Passport America. Also tell your friends to be careful if they have dogs. Some campgrounds DO NOT allow them, some only 25-35 lbs. Just a warning.
PS I'm not a boomer either, but a wanna be

WE STAYED AT FT DESOTO MANY YEARS AGO--GREAT CAMPGROUND, CHECK IT OUT AT http://www.pinellascounty.org/park/05_Ft_DeSoto.htm IT IS MUCH LIKE STAYING IN THE "OLD FL KEYS". WE ALSO STAYED AT SHADY ACRERS THAT WAS ALSO NICE. YOU MAY WANT TO LOOK ON TRAILER LIFE, WOODALLS, AND GOOD SAMS TO SEE WHAT IS OUT THERE.

We liked Sun 'n Fun RV Resort east of Sarasota for one of the Boomer rallies last summer. Ft. Desoto is a great spot but getting a reservation when you want it can be a problem. Further up on the west coast is Rock Crusher Canyon RV Resort near Crystal River, one of the top 50 resorts according to Trailer Life, and tops in our book.

One other place is the only one in Sarasota Co that is right on the beach. I believe the name is called Gulf Beach Campground. It is not a large park and only has the beach for ammenities but the kids would probably love it. It is just north of the public beach on Siesta Key. Found the link www.gulfbeachcampground.com
