I'd like to stay at Lake Griffith S.P. around Easter '06 (April 16th) for a week, and will be driving down from NE Ohio. Can anyone give me feedback on this park? Will it be "booked full" at that time of year with snowbirds planning to come back up North? I called the park office and they recommended making reservations and paying for the entire week up front (today)...

Assuming you're talking about Lake Griffin State Park in Fruitland Park. Sorry, we have no firsthand knowledge having never camped there. Most other FL state parks we've been in have been clean and well kept. If you chose that location to be near the Villages, Recreation Plantation is located nearby.

The campground office is probably correct about reservations. The snowbirds pretty much take over around here and until late April.

Another suggestion would be Rock Crusher RV Park near Crystal River. That's one of our favorites.

Troth,

We just stayed there 12/29/05-12/31/05. Nice park, but it is very small. Very clean though for a state park. No matter what time we went into bathhouses they were clean, and the park was full when we were there.
They have a boat dock that leads to Lake Griffin. They also have a few activities that the campers can attend. Check the website for those.
The only thing I didn't like was you had to drive through the dump station to leave from where we were camping. We had a new site- # 19 and I think it was the best one in the park. Private on the left and no one right on top of you on the right and each site is separated by a wooden fence.
I don't think we would stay longer than a weekend though, it was a nice getaway spot, several restaurants and a Walmart, churches, etc. nearby.
