Am taking a trip to Bristol Tn from middle Ga in July. Have taken this trip several times going around the mountains via I75 to Chatt Tn then to Bristol, but would like to try different scenery this trip. Mapquest routes us over the Mountains by the way of I85 to Greenville SC then taking I26 to Asheville NC.(about 60 miles shorter, but same time). We have a 33 ft motorhome(NEW Ford chassis and pulling a 25 foot trailer, about 3000#s). My concern is brakes on the down side of the mountains as have never driven a motorhome in mountains.

Would appreciate any comments from more experienced RVers that have actually taken this route.

SAS30, You should not be concerned coming down any mountain if you select shift your transmission to be in the same gear going down as you were going up on the opposite grade. Grab a gear there driver and get it into 2nd gear and take your foot off the brake. If your vehicle is going too slow upshift to the next gear and stab your brakes for 1 to 2 seconds to control your speed. Leave time in between brake applications for the brakes to cool. Do not ride your brake pedal - trust your equipment to do its job.

Mount rain driving is a technique that does not take too long to learn. Just talk it up with your fellow Super Duty F53 owners in the Ford forum and they'll set you straight.
