I'm in Florida and I am planning a trip to Port Republic, NJ (Chestnut Lake Thousand Trails)for the month of October 2006. This will be our first long distance trip in our 2006 Hurricane. Any advices that you can give would be greatly appreciation. I'm a little nervous making the trip, but need to do it if I'm planning to go Fulltime one day. Thank you

I don't know if this will fit your needs, but here it is.

Remember one word.......mosey. This is how I travel and enjoy it. If I were planning your trip, it would take me a month to get to your NJ destination. I'll give you an example of my next trip.

The trip will be about 2 1/2 to 3 months long. I have a few objectives for the trip:
1. Newmar rally in Nashville
2. Newmar rally in Vermont
3. Newmar plant tour
4. See an old friend
5. See my mother
6. See my Father

You can see I live in South Florida. The first stop is to see my old friend. Next is the Newmar rally in Nashville. Then West to Memphis for a few days and on to Branson for a few days. Back East to Nappanee for a Newmar plant tour. Continue East to visit my mother in upstate NY. Then over to Vermont for a Newmar rally. Head to the SE part of NY for the wife to visit her family's settlement. Travel South to DC for a few days. Head South to Myrtle Beach for a few days. Continue South and visit some Central Florida RV communities and look for full time housing with built in RV garage. Continue South to Tampa and visit my Father (stay at Lazy Days and look at all the latest and greatest RVs + there is a Camping World on site that has the ability to vacuum $s out of my wallet.

We will leave the middle of August and not return until the first part of November. No travel day will be over 250 miles, many days it will be less than that.

Mosey, it's a great way to travel.

Thanks Gary, It will take me a few days to get there no rush, I'm planning to travel about 300 miles a day or stop around 3:00pm for the night. From NJ I will rent a car and go to CT and visit some family there and then back to NJ. I think is cheaper to rent a car instead of taking the MH to CT. At Thousand Trails I will stay for two week without paying.

Took lots of trips to Florida from PA in MH. Usually did about 300 miles. Get into camp while still light out. It really helps. We got lost and had to find campground after dark. Make sure the campground is close to the exits and make sure there is gas at these stops. That way you can get up, gas and go. No stops along the way to fill up. Good luck, and take it slow. If you are taking I 95 let those "who know it all" pass. They are a real pain where the sun don't shine.

Thanks Allegro Happy. I am going to take it easy going and coming. Camp near the exit, etc. If there is a Wal-Mart I am going to park there (well maybe). I am going to Map Quest and get the route.

You might consider stopping at the Thousand Trails--in Quimby, VA--(Virginia Landings TT)
You can get up and drive to the Cape May Ferry, take that across to NJ and be in the NJ Thousand trails for an easy day drive. I go this way and have had great trips--Call ahead to the Ferry and make a reservation. I like the 12:30 fery, it gives plenty of time to get there . They put me on first, and we had a perfect view out in the front.

Dealing with direction, which map is more accurate when getting directions? I am using Map Quest and it gave me 1011.15 miles and 19 hrs, 52 minutes to NJ. Good Sam gave me 1065 miles and 18:30 minutes to NJ. I did not go line by line to see the different just use the same addresses. What program do you all use for direction? Oh should I brake down and by a GPS, I am thinking of C330, Wal-Mart special. Thank you

I use GPS and she (her name is Sally) changes her mind from time to time. If you are not comfortable with the two different services providing slightly different total mileage readings, you may not be comfortable with GPS mileage eatimates. They have gotten better in the last few years, but we are not at the Star Treck level of accuracy yet.

I can deal with it if you think about it I basically need it for direction from Point A to Point B. So I guess I wait for the technologies to catch up with Star Trek and if that happen who needs a RV, just beam me up. Thanks

We're doing a similar trip, leaving Aug 29th from FL and ending in Maine. Our Route plan goes through the Blue Ridge Mountains north bound and east to NJ to visit the folks there, onto Cape Cod then Maine, returning via the Carolina Outter Banks (weather permitting, hurricane season), then home to Naples. No scheduled stops except for our old neighborhood in NJ. With the schools back in session it is easier to pick a CG as we drive that day, except on weekends. We have no times set except departure date and return date. Some days we log in the miles to leap frog over some areas and other days we will just go a few hundred miles. If there is a good hatch on in the Catskill Mountains we'll float a few flies for a while. This trip is to just get out of the FL heat, put up the feet and chill out. Plan on traveling the entire month of September.

Hi Michael & Kathy hope you both have a great trip going and coming and in between. We are leaving in the last few days of Sept maybe with a change of plan like stopping first in Maryland to visit family and then go to NJ, Thousand Trails, and from there rent a car and go to CT visit family up there. No schedule date just leaving and coming. This will be a trip to check out the RV also, the longing trip so far with this MH only been 132 miles. This will give me an opportunity to check out the 2006 Hurricane. I brought a GPS to make the trip easier and less stressful. Take care
