I learned a lesson about RV tires, ie; LOOK FOR THE DOT DATE before U buy. This letter will explain that and who NOT to buy from!
On May 31st 2006, I had a blowout on an inside rear, on my 2001 Winnebago RV in Cocoa Beach, FL I called Coach-Net and they sent a man to replace the Michelin tire.(National tire & truck Repair, Cocoa FL 888-465-8600) He suggested putting the 'new' tire on the front, "it is best to have new tires on the front", I agreed and he did.
I paid him $375.00 for the tire plus tax & service charges totaling $478.00

On July 10th, I went to Boulevard Tire in Daytona for a Front end alignment & wheel balance, where they discovered that my "new tire"(#1) was actually 6 years old!
They said that it should have never been put on.
He has my brand of tires for $227.00!!!!!!!! Regular, normal price!!!
That's $150.00 less than I paid National Tire.
I called the manufacturer of my brand tire, Michelin, who said 'absolutely not' put that tire on an RV.

The DOT # on the tire in question is; B6 LB B77X 2700
The date of manufacture, 2700, was the 27th week of 2000, 1st week of July

I called National Tire on July 10 @2pm and spoke with the Office Mgr, Sabrina and explained the issue, and asked for the name of the boss; she said "Mate', but did not know his last name. She said someone will call me.............No one did.
I called back on July 17th and asked for the name of the owner and was told "Clayton"; she did not know his last name. I told her I want the owner/ General Mgr to call me in 72 hours.... no one did.
˜Chrissy' of Coach-net, said that since Michelin told her that they would give me a new, free tire the issue is closed and any further issues are between the tire co and me.

I called National Tire back on July 20, asked for Sabrina. She was not there/out of town and neither was any member of management. I hung up.

I feel that I have been deceived, greatly overcharged and my family and I placed in jeopardy of injury or death with their sale and installation of an unsafe product to me by a company that YOU sent to help me. Can you imagine the lawsuit you would be involved in if there had been such an accident? You have failed as a company to assist & protect your client in need.
It should make no difference to you that Michelin Tire Co. offered to give me a replacement tire at no cost. Now, wouldn't it have been great for Coach-Net to negotiate thru Michelin such an offer to me?
No, you just left me hanging!!

I have a reasonable expectation that the tire would be a NEW tire, not just an unused one
I will obtain replacement tire(s) elsewhere.
I am not a very ˜happy camper' regarding Coach-Net

I HAVE NEVER HEARD FROM ANYONE AT NATIONAL TIRE

So, beware of NATIONAL TIRE and that COACHNET will not stand behind you or assist you.

John,
Is Michelin providing you with a new tire as the Coach Net rep said? hat sounds like your best avenue for geting satisfaction on this. Obviously Sabrina and National Tire are avoiding you...

The price you paid is about normal for roadside delivery of a new Rv tire - you can be sure it will cost far more than a local tire store if you have to buy it on the road under emergency conditions. Same thing if you buy it at one of the franchised service areas on some toll roads - you pay though the nose.

I don't think you have much of a beef with Coach Net - all they did was to send a roadside service provider to you. Once you decide to purchase additional products or services, you are on your own. Still, I would think they would exert some pressure on the contractor (National Tire) in your behalf. Did they contact Michelin about the new tire for you?

I would:
A. Go to the shop and discuss it with the manager.
B. Call the local TV station (like Channel 6 Investigators) and ask them if they are interested in a story...

You better believe that you have a leg to stand on. I agree with Dave Head--call the local stations and give them the story. I would also call Coach-Net back and National Tire and let them know you are going to tell your story. They may not want the bad press and decide to help. You may also want to check with one of the local attorneys like John Morgan, "for the people". He might like this kind of case!!

Isn't it interesting that the original poster makes their very first post a complaint. Now I can understand spreading the word about bad service, but the poster has not returned to provide any sort of follow-up.

There certainly is a beef with National Tire for providing a sub standard tire. I would suspect that some action could be taken in that area. What I don't understand is why they are blaming Coach-Net for not assisting in the arrangements made with Michelin. As I read the original post, the poster made the call to Michelin and was offered the free tire BEFORE recontacting Coach-net. The deal was already made, what was Coach-Net to do? Hopefully Coach-Net has had a coversation with their service provider to prevent this from happening again.

Hi Kazoo Tom,
I'm an LEO in S.FLA and the wife is retired LEO who is originally from Kalamazoo. Mother-in-law lives in Portage and the brother-in-law lives in Schoolcraft. We're hoping for good weather in mid Sept when we visit the in-laws. We're going to the UP first and work our way back south...

John, if I understand this, Michelin gave you a free tire to replace the 6 year old tire you purchased from National Tire. If that is the case...........Horray for Michelin . They had no reponsibility or culpability in the sale of the tire. However an attorney might, wrongly, see it different.(I know, poor sentence structure)

Now you paid $375 for a tire, with service call and tax $478. You didn't mention how far away you were from their service point. But, $25 to mount the tire, $8 to dispose of the tire, and 8% sales tax means they charged only $37 dollars for the service call. Pretty cheap. So the tire price included some profit within for the service call. (I used California figures to approximate the pricing.)

Was the $227 tire the same model as the National $375 Michelin? Just trying to be sure to compare apples to apples.

But, a 6 year old tire should never have been sold or installed. If the service tech knew it was an old tire, shame on him.

National Tire may have been completely ignorant of the tires age. But that still doesn't give them reason not to talk to you. For that part ...poor customer relations.

Good thing the people at Boulevard Tire checked things out .

The way I read the first post Coach Net said Michelin offered a free ($375) tire. Then the next paragraph or two it reads that John got the new tire from Michelin. If Coach Net arranged the new Michelin, what more were they to do? I agree with Tom and Barb
