Notes:
On Sunday once everyone arrives, we’ll talk about the schedule and see if we can drum up some interest for a TX Hold’em tournament. I expect that we’ll need a bunch of chips for that. I’d like to get some folks to volunteer to help setup the potluck dinners and to make sure that we’re all picked up afterward. I’d like to talk about a board game and card game activity for Tuesday morning. If anyone has any outdoor games, baseball, washers bean bag or any of those types of games and wants to set up a tourney we can do that. We can also get some horse shoes from the Recreation Desk unless someone brings a good set and we can have a horseshoe tourney. The campground has 3 or 4 pits to the right of the gazebo. Let’s make this event a fun time folks!
Coffee with the Mayor
Is sponsored by:
Mrs.Morgan's Cookies
www.RVUpgrades.com
Truck Systems Technologies
Larry's Auto Clinic
SkyMed
We will be able to buy coffee, a box of mini-moos, assorted sweeteners and perhaps paper cups. You may choose to bring donuts or anything else you might desire to share with friends. Bev Morgan will bring her signature, “Mrs. Morgan’s Cookies” to the table. The campground has very large coffee pots and we can set those up in the evening to brew in the morning on timers. If you have a timer that we can use please let us know. I have 1. I am planning on having 2 early morning coffees with the Mayor and on Wednesday we’re going to roll that into the Potluck Breakfast.
Phil Smarella will be presenting a seminar about SkyMed. If you are ill on the road and you can no longer drive, SkyMed takes over and brings everything home for you in the best manner possible. They spare little expense to make sure that you, your family and motorhome or RV/Truck are returned safely home. Please come and participate in the SkyMed seminar.
Larry Diaz will present 2 seminars about windshield chip repair and after lunch an RV cleaning seminar. I have known Larry for many years and he makes his seminars very informative and fun. Larry will be able to repair a any significant chip you may have in your windshield while you are attending the rally. Please plan on attending Larry’s seminars.
Dale Sumner is a Master Certified RVIA Technician and he will walk us though RV electrical systems. Discover the do’s and don’ts of electricity. He has been doing these seminars for many years and everyone benefits from his knowledge about your RV’s 110v and 12 volt electrical systems. Please plan on attending. You don’t want to miss these seminars the information alone is invaluable.
Tood Stegall will present a 1 Hour seminar about Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) Both the 507 and the 510 TST Systems will be presented. Discussions related to Lo and Hi pressures as well as tire temperatures will be reviewed. Todd will initially present the technical bullet points of the systems and then host a Q&A session to conclude the presentation. If you have any type of RV with tires, you will benefit from this seminar.
If you have any books that you have read and would like to swap bring those after lunch to the recreation hall. If you have finished a puzzle and the pieces are all there please bring in those to swap with your friends.
Monday Potluck dinner: If you have a crock pot that needs to be plugged in, there are plenty of electrical outlets that are available. I would appreciate some help setting up the chow line. With this crew we might want to setup a row of tables and serve from both sides at the same time. Bring your plug strips and extension cords if you have them in the event folks need to keep the food warmed up.
Not to be missed after the Potluck dinner is the evening’s entertainment provided by Big-Bam-Boom. Boom is reminiscent of a Jimmy Buffet type entertainer with many Caribbean songs and other toe tapping easy listening songs many being original compositions. This evening’s entertainment is sponsored by;
2 of our longest sponsors on iRV2.com.
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
NEW: "Ice Cream Social" We are going to get a number of coupons which we will pass out on Monday evening at the Pot Luck dinner for an Ice Cream Social on Tuesday When you get your ticket, make sure that I initial the coupon. The Ice Cream Social is going to be a timed event that will run for 90 minutes. The social will be from 1:00 to 2:30p at Sandy's Meet'N Eat. There is a large seating area off to the left of the concession if you want to sit or take your ice cream and begin making your way out to the gazebo.
At 3:00p weather permitting we’re going to gather at the beach front gazebo. Please bring your chairs, beverages and snacks with you and bring some extra if you want to. Bring your camera and don’t forget to take lots of pictures. From about 12 feet up you can see quite a ways up and down the beach and if the weather is cooperative, we’re going to have a very nice time. We'll conclude this activity at about 4:30p
We are going to carpool to Ryan’s and to the Show afterward. If you want to double up with a 2nd couple in your vehicle, that would nice. I would plan on departing OL by 5:00PM. I might be there ahead of you setting up the room with some volunteers. We will have a private room that can sit 50 or more people so we’ll have to fix the tables so we can seat everyone. If there’s no more room, the overflow can sit immediately outside the room if we want to stay together as a group. Don’t forget to print out the dinner coupon so that you can get the group rate. The price that you will pay includes dinner, beverage and gratuity.
Going to the show; I figured 45 minutes time to get out of the restaurant, into the cars and to drive the distance up to the Carolina Opry. Be out in your car and ready to go between 6:45 and 7:00pm. In October (off season) it should not 30 minutes to make it to the show. You will be driving up 17 past the Grand Strand Medical Center on 82nd Avenue North. Passing the Hospital stay in the right lane and follow the signs for the Carolina Opry and Dixie Stampede. You will enter the show complex to the right and then you’ll make a quick left. Parking for the Carolina Opry is all the way out to the North side of the complex. When you see the front of the Carolina Opry building that’s where you should park. The will call window is on the left; just give the clerk your driver’s license/ID to get your tickets. The show starts at 8:00pm. We will be seating as a group. Enjoy the Show!
On your way back to Ocean Lakes, take your time and go back via route 17 and consider turn left onto Ocean Boulevard at 44th Street and then going south. You’ll be “Cruising” down the boulevard. Continue all the way out past the Crown Reef Hotel and Damon’s up to Route 17 just south of the Myrtle Beach Airport. Turn left and you’ll be about 3 miles from Ocean Lakes. During the day make plans to come back downtown and take a walk out on the new Boardwalk. It’s little more than a mile long and goes from 4th Avenue N to to 14th Avenue N.
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
On Wednesday we are scheduling the “Coffee with the Mayor” which will roll into our Breakfast Potluck. We’ll have coffee already so if some folks want to bring OJ that will be a good thing. I am allocating 90 minutes for breakfast so that should be good. Afterward I want to invite everyone to an open discussion about the 2011 National Rally just to get some of your ideas. As you know a date and location has been selected. What I would like to talk about are group activities that we can plan to increase the value of the rally.
One important note before we leave is that we have to restore the hall exactly the way it was before we got there. We need to put away all the tables and put the chairs back in neat rows the way they were. All hands can make this event pass very quickly and we’re outta there. We will still have use of the hall so if folks want to play cards or whatever and they need special arrangements for tables and chairs just put the stuff away when you’re done.
Sometime around noon I want to invite everyone to come with me for lunch over at Joey Doggs (Menu Follows In a New Thread). This is one of the signature Hot Dog restaurants on the Grand Strand and fortunately for us it’s not but a ¼ of a mile outside the main gate. Take a left out of the gate and just about immediately look for a right exit off of the main highway (Route 17) and continue south (to the left) and look for a small shopping area right before the Old Time Pottery parking lot. Bring your iRV2 coupon from Ryan’s and show it to the cashier for a 10% discount on all the menu items “except” for already discounted combinations like the “Dog Bowl”. Is anyone up to getting a “Doggfather’ or a Dogg-A-Nator”? For breakfast Joey also has “Taylor” ham products which are served all day.
There won’t be enough hours in the day to go and see everything while you are here but consider Ripley’s Aquarium at Broadway on the Beach, it’s worth the trip. Brookgreen Gardens is a nice place to visit featuring art, sculptures, gorgeous floral arrangements and a grove of live oak trees that were mature during the time of the Civil War. Whatever you choose to do or not to do is entirely up to you.
Wednesday evening, ya'll are invited to whomever has the largest site and we'll have us a sit in! Bring all the stuff you've been trying to get rid of all week!
I am looking forward to a few more folks registering for our rally, we're almost sold out. We've got great sites, right up close to the ocean and fun will be had by all. I hope that you will want to participate with us and we'd be pleased to have you.
If you have any questions about "all of the above" let's discuss or drop me a PM.
If you need the phone number for Group Sales at the Carolina Opry send me a PM.
Colleen and I are so much looking forward to seeing all of our friends again and in advance I want to welcome you to the Grand Strand! (I know you're coming!)

Mike & Coleen;
Everything looks great. I have been watching the registration list to see how many cookies Grandma Morgan needs to make. The most important part of this Rally is the friends that attend and we are looking forward to seeing everybody again. Thanks again for your leadership.

What we need is someone to take a lead role in monitoring the sign up ...
We could start-up a new thread called " 10th Anniversary Potlucks" and we can assign "edit" rights to that thread so the entries can be updated by a select individual that wants to volunteer for the job.
With a Group of perhaps 50 cooks that might be a good idea. Clearly 1/3 of the dishes should be salads, breads, veggies etc. 1/3 should be entrées like crock-pot casseroles, pasta, meats, other stuff and my favorite 1/3 for the "best part" deserts and beverages.
I can do the sign-up if you guys trust me ...
We have to do 2 Potlucks one for breakfast too!
I sure do appreciate the advance offer to KP. I'll help too and I'm sure that we all will help make this event a BIG success! We have a full size kitchen in the rec center at our disposal.

I do have a question about the potlucks, when preparing our dishes to take, about how many portions should each of us make in our "pot"? Just checking as there will be lots of mouths to feed!

Dianne, That's an excellent question. Just this morning we were having breakfast at the House of Blues Depchief, DavidK and our DWs and we said that a person should contribute enough to serve up to 8 people.
If you have 46 rigs making enough food to feed 8 people each; that's enough food to feed perhaps 368 people when we only have 92 people to feed. Now consider that the items will be overlap items like meat, veggies/starch and desert (3) folks might take 1 of each. I would take the 368 and divide that by 3 so now we should be able to feed 122 people. That's just about right!
If this thing is fugued out right, there will be few leftovers.

The Tuesday gathering at the beach front gazebo sounds nice but do they have an elevator?? On a recent trip over to visit friends we saw that gazebo and it looks higher up than 12 feet. THen add into that bringing your chairs, beverages and snacks up those steps is something that may not be doable for some of us. Heck just getting up to the gazebo will be quite a challange not to mention taking anything else up with us!! I know steps are very hard on me,I don't think Doc can carry Ms Carol up and I'm sure there are others than can't handle steps like they use to. So great view IF you can make it!!
