My wife's birthday is in mid February and she has mentioned wanting to check out this area. Anyone familiar with rv parks near town, she said there's some kind crab festival there.
Thanks nuck

Yep, the crab festival is in February. Lotsa good fishing in Steinhatchee. The "RV Parks" are mostly just lots with 4 or 5 RV spaces on them, we never utilized them as my Father-in-law had a place there with RV hookups, but they should do for a week stay or so, no security issues to worry about.

Consider Keaton Beach, which is fairly close to Steinhatchee. There's not a whole lot there so get your supplies in advance. This park itself is small with sites fairly close together but is decent enough and is right on the water (no beach at the park). Pack your woolies; you'll be going to one of the coldest places in Florida in the coldest month of the year.

I've never been to Steinhatchee so can't help you there.

BTW, you do realize that the crab festival is a Fiddler Crab Festival? Fiddlers are those tiny little crabs seen running around on beaches and mudflats.

Hey john and tfry thanks for the replies. We stayed at keaton bch for thanksgiving and loved it. Didn't know if there were any rv parks in steinhatchee but it ain't looking good. Yeah I saw that it was fiddler crabs but I think she was looking for a party in a warm spot for her birthday...Guess I'll keep looking as we got about 5 days to get somewhere hangout and get back home to wnc...any other ideas?

One of my favorite places is Holiday CG at Panacea, Fla. It's right on Ochlockonee Bay. Most sites are close together but that's standard with older campgrounds. Weather will be the same as at Steinhatchee and Keaton Beach. My experience at that time of year is that you could have nice weather or freeze your posterior off.

You can go over to St. Marks and down to the St. Marks NWR and lighthouse (no entry), eat at the wonderful dive joint Outz Too at Newport, eat (great!) again at Huttons Seafood food trailer at the intersections of US-98 and US-319, and go to the beach at Mashes Sands or Bald Point and watch the water slosh.

As for party potential it'll pretty much be limited to Outzs with the bikers on weekends.

Just had a thought...call up Sea Hag Sea Hag Marina and the Shacks at Sea Hag - Steinhatchee - Florida and ask them to recommend a place.
