Well after three years since our last towing experience, we hooked up our Toad for a test ride before we head out to the Bay Bayou Rally.

All went well, and it all came back to us after hooking everything up and removing the fuse in the Malibu. Off we went, except that ....

All of a sudden a buzzer goes off in the coach and a flashing message which read: "NEUTRAL - NO BRAKE!" The coach was in Neutral and the Emergency Brake WAS ON!

Once the transmission was engaged in Drive and the Emergency Brake was released, we proceeded with no problems at all.

Hopefully, this was just an electrical malfunction in the electrical system? Never happened before, and we can't imagine that it had anything to do with the fact that we had the Toad hooked up behind us.

Any ideas?

Just a guess, but when you got that message, do you know if the emergency brake was actually working, not just set, but actually working?

If your rig has air brakes, perhaps the air pressure wasn't up high enough when you shifted into neutral.

Hitchiker might be close when he referred to "AIR", now CherU didn't say where that message was displayed.

CherU, did Ron hear the alarm and see the message, or was it just you???

My guess is that the "toad" connection perhaps tripped a notice to remind you that the car should be in neutral with no brakes...If that is the case does it mean that the Motorhome is smarter than (well never mind you get the idea).

Hi, Dave:

Yes, the Emergency Brake was working. As soon as Ron released it, the coach moved forward.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Lou:

It was displayed on the Display Panel. Duh!

I was in the passenger seat. I didn't see the message but both Ron and I heard the buzzing.

The emergency brake in the car was OFF, key turned to ACC, Brake Buddy in place and all FOUR WHEELS of the car turned when towed.

I don't think the MH is smarter than we are or it would have resolved the issue.

Now what?

Hi, Richard:

Yes we do have air brakes, and Ron said the pressure was where it should be. I asked him the same questions. Thanks, anyway.

CherU, did you try the same set up again to see if this might have been a fluke alarm? I've hooked trailers up and the brake controller says the trailer is not connected. Have gone back and redone connection and worked fine, and never had problem come up again.
Just a thought

We did not unhook and rehook the Toad. Ron did turn off the engine, wait for a bit then restarted it. Same buzzing and same message.

We'll see what happens when we hook up again for the trip.

Cheri,
All kidding aside. It could be a "dummy" message whenever anything is connected to motorhome via the electric plug assembly.
We get a TV Anetnna message everytime we start the motorhome, which is what I mean by "DUMMY" message.
Here is a thought, next time you hook up prior to pluging in the electric connections start it up and see what happens, if nothing...then plug in the Toad and see what happens.
These Motorhomes are getting smarter all the time. OR better yet CALL FLEETWOOD and see what they have to say????

Lou!

You were kidding?

Tomorrow we are going to crank up the coach and see if we get the same message. If not, then we will hook up the Toad again, just like we did today and see what happens.

Thanks!

Derek,
Cheri is still trying to catch the toad.
They get really slippery after all the rain we have had.
