OK, Xeroid:

Here it is. No gossip. This is the truth!

We had a "visitor" in our kitchen pantry today. I opened the door to get something out of there, and I "thought" I saw something moving on the floor. I quickly dismissed it, thinking it was my imagination, but had another look and saw a "tail" moving back and forth. It was large and I thought it was a rat.

I slammed the door and reported my findings to Ron, grabbed Lucy and Lola and we hung out in the back bedroom.

With his able sidekick/neighbor, Rich, Ron emptied the pantry contents that were in a bin on the floor and the "rat" turned out to be a 2-foot Black Racer SNAKE!!!!!! Ron took care of him with his Pitching Wedge, and Rich transported "it" to the drain in the street using my FORMER BBQ tongs.

It was so disgusting!

We think it may have come in when we forgot to close the screen door in the garage. We often leave the screen in the garage down, and open the door to our lanai to allow a nice cross breeze to pass through.

I can assure you we won't be doing this again. Yuck! We understand they love to hide in underbrush and tall grasses and come out when there is a lot of rain. Guess our little monsoon the other day encouraged him to come out of hiding.

How was that, Xeroid? I'll never look at that pantry in the same way, ever again.

No gossip here, either. We're trying to finish up our taxes so we can come camping. And get weed and feed on the yard. Fun. Fun. See y'all later in the week. Really looking forward to that!

That black snake was probably the reason you didn't have rats. You should have left him for the new owners....at no additional cost of course.

Larry:

I was trying to decide whether I was happier that it was a snake instead of a rat.

I think I am. A rat would have moved much faster, and who knows where in our house, it might have gone.

I never saw the snake in its entirety. Its tail was bad enough. So disgusting. Yuck.

I am somewhat comforted by your thought that, the snake was the reason we didn't have rats.

I will probably not share this with the new owners of our home. I don't want to spoil it for them if it should happen again. I will tell them to keep their garage door closed though.

Looking forward to seeing you guys. Get those taxes done. Good thing you aren't waiting until the last minute.

Uh oh,
Black racers are a very protected species. Good thing you are a good ole gal or else you could be in BIG TROUBLE. I hope the babies weren't there also. Did you give a good look for them? Sometimes they wander off from mama when indoors. Oh well, thanks for the new info. See ya next week.

Oh my gosh!!! How scary. It reminds me of when we first moved to Florida. This city slicker called Ralphie home from work to kill the big bad snake that was in our living room!!! Turned out it was a teeny tiny toony itty bitty baby lizard. My big brave he man picked him up and placed him outside (after I had sprayed the crap out of him with my hair spray). Glad you're okay. Can't wait to see all of you in a few days. Yahoo!!!

I didn't even think about spraying anything. The closest aerosol would have been PAM. Just what we needed - a slippery snake! Yuck!

I had no idea that lizards had hair, let alone that Janice was into lizard hair dressing. You learn so much on this forum.

Cheri - I think snakes prefer the olive oil Pam if you are going to use that. I did a little research on the internet and found a product you might be interested in... http://www.doyourownpestcontrol.com/snakeaway.htm

I understand it works for lizards also.

Thanks, Larry:

I didn't know that snakes were concerned about their cholesterol but why not.

I checked the "Snake Away" website. Think I'll order of case of that stuff.

And, Yes, snakes do have hair! Ralphie told me they do and I believe everything Ralphie says.

What is wrong with you it is a known fact that poodles were bred in France to enter the sewers to catch rats and snakes that were carrying the Black Plague. You have denied your pets of their proud heritage.
