Doc, RiverVista is just down the mountain from us.
Beautiful park and great location.
We know where all the good waterfalls, and other things are.
We would be glad to help. We vote yeah.

It is easy for everyone to get to and this area is spectacular in Octorber, come to think of it that could pose a problem with reservations.

MB or Dillard? Let me know
Doc,
When you decide on the campground, just call them and make sure they have enough spaces for the number you estimate will come. If there's only ten spaces available, then it's the first ten that make reservations. If no one shows (which won't happen), you still have a good time. If a bunch show up, you have a better time. If you have a potluck, that's what it is. Don't worry about who's bringing what. If everyone shows up with a pot of beans, well, that'll be a gas, won't it? Since there's no rally fee other than the cost of the campsite, no one can complain they didn't get their money's worth.

If you're planning the rally during leaf peeping time, you may want to make plans soon. We'll be on our way back east from the balloon festival in October. We'll keep watching to see if your dates mesh with ours.

We've never been to an RV rally and would be interested. Hope something comes of it. Unfortunately for us, the day job requires some advanced planning for time off, but I'll be watching this thread closely.

Doc,
Dillard would be our choice for an October rally. We would plan to attend if it's after October 16 or later.

I finally made contact with folks at Hunting Island yesterday, who could give me some information I could actually understand. They are booked up (as we figured they would be) on the front loop and only have sites in the back in the boonies. Having been there, done that and been covered with racoons, biting flies and mosquitos that rival a Cessna 120 in size, I declined. She said at the time they were in something (I thought) she called shrimp baiting season(???) and that always brought a lot of guests.
Soooooo, Moountain Vista in Dillard is looking better. These people can block out an area of the park for us, allow us to use the dining hall (provided we clean up of course) and the fireplace area. They have a pool as well as a heated pool inside.
We have stayed there several times and enjoyed it greatly. There is a number of things to see and do in the area. There is a great roadside BBQ stand just down the road that I usually seem to make a pig of myself at. (Can I end a sentence with a preposition??) This is the response I got from an inquiry from River Vista. Unless there is objections to River Vista, I suggest we set our fall rally up for this location.
Are the dates indicated on the response right? Let me know please and I will finalize it.

"Mr. Smith,

We do have sites available for Thursday, October 8th through Monday, October 12th. We could block your group in the section between Fleetwood Drive and Holiday Rambler Lane as we have 18 unoccupied sites next to each other in that area. (There is a site map online at www.rvmountainvillage.com if you do not already have one.)

For group reservations, the wagon master usually calls in a reservation for a block of sites in the name of the group. Then individual group members call to select their site by mentioning the group name and the date. We have found this works best because group members can choose where in the group they would like to be and who they would like to camp next to, in addition to the ability to pay for lots individually. I would be happy to make a reservation for your group for that time under the name IRV. We ask that group leaders let us know a final count 10 days in advance, so that we can release any extra lots back into the rental system.

Since your group likes to have meals together, I would be happy to reserve side A of the Mountain Village Center for your use. This facility is next to the pool area and playground, has a fireplace, stage, and commercial kitchen with grills right outside the door. It is currently available, and there is no fee for rally groups to reserve or use it.

The sites that we would book for you would be $36.67 per night. We give a 10% discount for groups of 10 or more rigs, so with the discount and tax included, the total comes out to $34.65 per night.

I hope this information helps. If you have any other questions, you are welcome to call or email back, or stop by in August when you return to Georgia. I'm looking forward to helping you and your group plan your relaxing vacation here at River Vista.

Sarah Scherer.

Joe and Collette, if there are no objections to River Vista, then be thinking about some neat places to see in the area.

Everyone > Looking forward to seeing all the IRV folks again. Sure hope we can get some of the Florida people there. Do you think we need a theme to the meal(s) ?

Sounds and looks good Doc! If our health holds up and diesel doesn't go up to $4 gallon we'll be there. Personally "theme" potlucks can be a problem, especially if they are Mexican or Chinese! Everyone has there own special recipes and sticking with them has always worked out good in the past.
