Campground near Abingdon, VA VA Creeper Trail

Hello- I'm looking for recommendations for a campground near Abingdon, Va in order to spend a weekend riding our bikes on the VA Creeper trail. Any suggestions?

VA Creeper Trail camping

I know of a campground in Damascus, VA which is on the AT and the VA Creeper. Damascus is located about halfway on the VA Creeper Trail. We've stayed at Creek Side RV Park - http://www.hayesrvpark.com/. It is about 1 block from the VA Creeper Trail.

Another good bike trail

If you like the VA Creeper, you will also like the New River Trail. Similar surface and terrain, but longer (52 miles). It follows the New River and goes from Pulaski, VA to Galax, VA, with a 5 mile spur to Fries, VA. We've camped in Fries at a very nice campground (Fries New River RV Park) and I rode past at least one other campground in Galax.

We went to Mt. Rogers in the National Forrest. had water / electric. Trail is fun going down, but it it uphill going back. worth the trip!

We stayed at a very nice NC State Park in Allegany County. Near Sparta, which is right next to Galax Va.

Look at your map & see if it will fit your travel plans.
