I am looking for a good place to stay a few days in the Virginia Beach area? Suggestions would be appreciated! I do have a dog.

Peace

If you have a tow....Newport News CG is a great
place to stay.....quiet,spacious, but close to the hustle-bustle of city life...not to far from the beach...that's where I go....to get away and be there at the same time..lol

Northrider, when will you be out there. We are planning our summer vacation and will in the Williamsburg area for a week at the end of July. I am also looking for a good family oriented campground close to bush Gardens and Colonial Williamsburg.

We have never got around to getting hooked up with the local Good Sams ... we do almost monthly outings with SMART (military group). We thought Bethpage was rather overpriced the one time we were there, but we weren't looking for entertainment and all that other "stuff" so that no doubt colored our perception.

I agree...Beth-Page was over pricey..
for a one night stay.....just to go
down to West-Point to fish..pulled in 6:00 pm
and
parked and left early 5:00am.......but the extra`s
were nice if you had time to enjoy them..I did
sit by the pool and relaxed a little before
I went to bed.....GREAT PARK! but no sleep over
IMHO.

I wish I would have had the advantage of this forum before our trip to Williamsburg last summer. This was our first long distance trip with out new Trailer. We ended up staying in a campground (name I dont recall) on the James river right across from the entrance to Jamestown and the ferry. We were hugely disappointed in the quality of the campground.
The area is rich in history and activities and we very much enjoyed our time spent away from the camp site, unfortunately we decided to cut the trip short because of the campground.
I have read during my lurking days that there are some very nice state parks in the Fredricksburg area, does anyone have any advice for that area ?
It is our hope to return next summer so that we can continue our tours of the battlefields and spend some time in Richmond, plus I still owe the boys a day at Six flags. (rain the day we had scheduled to go last year)

Thanks
Scott

We are members of Wilderness Resort in Fredricksburg. We ussually make a couple trips a year to the campground. We enjoy the area a lot. The battlefields and the historic areas downtown Fredricksburg are great. About 40 miles south on 95 is Lake Anna. It is a beutiful lake, with a state park. I do not know if they have camping. We were there last year and the park is beutiful.

We went through the series of battlefields for the seven days campaign and the Cold harbor area. I still would like to see the exhibits in downtown Richmond and the Southern area where Butlers campaign stalled (bermuda hundred).
Can you offer any advice on where to start in the Fredericksburg area ? There was so much action in that area that I suspect there is a lot to see.

Thanks
Scott

Disney daddy i am sorry you had a bad time a James town Beach Campsites. I grew up going there. It was once a wonderful place. It went under a few years back when they went under new management and pulled all permanent campsites. Everyone left. Ever since then it just hasnt been the same, but it is very relaxing. I still go there time to time.
And to those who say Beth Page is over-rated. It is a well developed campground, for everyone. Young and old. Activities for all who want to enjoy, otherwise you can enjoy what you please. Whether it be the pools, beach, watercrafts, games, playground, a round of horse shoes or just have a cool beverage of your choice, and socailize with you neighbors. Beth page is a family camground for all to enjoy and love.
