We are about to take a quick trip from Ohio to North Carolina, and want to stop close to Fancy Gap. We have found Utt's Campground but cannot find much info as far as how difficult it is to get to. I've been stuck in the hills of VA and W VA. One campgnd review said to get to a certain campground in Hillsville, the turns were so sharp that an A class would have trouble staying on the road. HELP that's close to Fancy Gap. Somebody must have been out there.

Ginger,

I haven't actually been to that campground so I may be less qualified to respond than others.

Having said that, the terrain in that area isn't as bad as you seem to have experienced previously. According to MS Streets and Trips, the campground is 1.3 miles from exit 8 of I-77 on US Highway 52. Take Chances Creek Rd (SR 148) 1 mile over to US 52 and then south .3 miles. The campground should be on the east side of the highway.

If you want to call them for additional clarification, their number is 276-728-7203. Enjoy your trip.

Ginger, Just about 7 miles North of Fancy Gap, is Wytheville VA. If you're early at Wytheville, you can pull into the Flying J Travel Plaza. If you're late at Wytheville, you can pull into the Cracker Barrel Restaurant parking lot. (The Flying J lot fills up real early in the evening, and the Cracker Barrel has a smaller parking lot and it is better if you arrive near closing time)

I realize that my suggestions are not for a campground, but they are good places to sleep overnight.
