We are going to the RV Show in Hershey. We will be traveling east from Mercer, Pa, on I-80 in our 40 ft motorhome towing a Jeep. Any recommendations of which route to take southbound from I-80? I was thinking of taking Rt 322 from State College to Harrisburg but I'm not sure which roads to take from I-80 to State College. For that matter, is 322 a good road for a 40 footer to be traveling? Thanks ahead of time for any recommendations.

That is the best route if you are already west of I-81 south. Both 322 and I-81 intersect in Harrisburg PA. You will see the signs for RT 322 South and Hershey Park around Harrisburg, can't miss them. The State Collage exit off I-80 is in Belfonte PA. 322 is a great 4 lane Hi Way. Watch out for PENN STATE home games.

We are headed to Hershey as well. Travelling on I80 we get on at Penfield. However I like to go over to exit 161 @ rt 26/220. Drop down to 144 @ Pleasant Gap. Follow 144 to Center Hall and Potter's Mill where I pick up 322. Keeps you from having to go through State College and saves a bunch of time. I will warn of the twisty road up Mt Nittany and the drop back down the other side. Been up and down many times with a car but this will be the first time with my 40' coach.

Buy the way. If you don't care to challenge Mt. Nittany, just stay on 26/220 until you get to 322 just north of State College. This is still way faster than getting on 322 at any other point west of exit 161 on I-80. BRookville, Clearfield, Woodlawn, Phillipsburg, Port Matilda and State College are all towns that will slow you down.

Living in State College, I will make the following recommendation....

Take I-80 to RT200 South, (Bellefonte Exit) Follow 220 South for about 10 miles to Rt 322 East ( I think it is Exit 75). Rt 322 is a 4 lane except for 10 miles east of State College.

This avoids a dangerous mountain at Centre Hall, and a narrow 2 lane RT 144 which is under construction. It also avoids a very dangerous intersection at RT 144 and 322. The intersection is on a curve and hill. There have been many motorhomes involved in accidents there.

Then just watch your speed going down the 7 mtn section of 322 !!

Thanks, sounds like 220 to 322 is the way to go for us.

I was wondering how long it was going to take someone to say something about 144.

Didn't take long.
