I'm going to try this again. Being a Texas Boomer that camps to eat, we will be in northern Kentucky some of July and August and would like to meet some of our iRV2 yankee friends.

If anyone would like to meet up, I think we could have a good ole time. But of course we are from Texas and only have better times than most. We would be more than happy to show y'all how its done.

I posted on another thread several weeks ago with absolutely zero response. If we get no response on this thread...we'll take the hint.

Hope to hear from y'all.

We are still firming up our plans Lori. We will be in the Crittenden area...south of Cincinnati for sure.

You might want to try Elkhorn Campground between Frankfort and Georgetown (which is where the Cinci Bengals summer camp is located). It's at the "Forks of the Elkhorn" There is a state hatchery and the world's only mussel hatchery. KY is home to endangered mussel species in its' many streams. The state has been hatching mussels and growing them on the gills of host fish (which causes no harm) as the mussels do in the wild. These are then repopulated in various streams. Nearby is the Elkhorn Creek winery and sporting clay range.

Mussel poaching is a multimillion dollar business. They are taken and sold in the Orient as seed sources for pearl farms. One night's work can pay in the tens of thousands of dollars to these poachers. Catching them is risky because they are often armed. The usually go out at night in bad weather when they aren't likely to be discovered.

I hope you visit and that we have a chance to meet you.

If you want to meet some Yankee friends you'll need to cross the river into Ohio. Kentucky is a southern state.

Jim, I don't think that the folks in Kentucky consider themselves to be Yankees. I know they live north of I-20, but you might hurt their feelings.

Jim, you get up into the northern area and especially the northeast, either the maps change scale or the states sure get smaller. Shoot, 2 hours you can cross 3 or 4 (sometimes more) states. Two hours might get get you across metro Houston area...if there is no traffic.

That's the beauty of living in central Ohio. A 2-hours drive will get you anywhere in the state.

Yeah but the downside is that you're still in Ohio.

BTW, Here in KY we're conflicted. The state stayed in the union and most sympathies were northern. Over time that changed but urban areas are mostly northern as more Yankees realized that KY was a MUCH better place to be and moved here.

I don't know, lots of friendly folks and some really beautiful scenery here in Ohio. We enjoy Kentucky also and will be back there next Thursday for a week.

Jim,

You're right about OH. We take a lot of friendly pokes at each other (state-wise that is). Around Adams County in the south of the state is heavily Amish and a good place to experience their unique lifestyle. There is a very good Amish store on OH Rt 32 (can't remember the name) where my wife and I drive to occasionally for the baked goods and crafts.
