We will be driving from Jersey to Mid Coast Maine in the fall. We are looking for the best route and campground suggestions for an overnight along the route but do not want to use the typical northeast route as shown in the mapping programs. We are hoping to try a central route, usually we head straight up NY State to Vermont for a few weeks then east to Maine but this this time its Maine 1st then Vt. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

TappanZee Bridge to Hartford to Mass Pike to 495 to 95. Question is once in Maine are you in a hurry to get to "mid coast Maine". By that do you mean Acadia? if so I would stay on 95 to Bangor and then down through Ellsworth to the island. Rt #1 is a little slow this time of year. If you are only going to Boothbay or below, head up Rt #1.

Are you overnighting in campgrounds or WM? Biddeford Maine, good WM and the rest of the other stuff that surrounds them. Saco Maine exit-Silver Springs (passport america) is an easy on and off but cal ahead. Also is a KOA 1/4 mile up the road. Sturbridge Mass Yogie Bear is just of MAss Pike. Tell me where you think you want to stop and I'll tell you whats in the area.

Just looking for a good campground half way up for one overnight before arriving in Belfast. I don't want to drive straight through from NJ

My wife and I used to drive up to Bangor every summer from north west NJ (510 miles) in about 10 hours or so on our Goldwing, I 84 to Mass pike to to 495 then to 95 straight up to Bangor. I see your from Whiting so Sturbridge Ma will probably be close to half way for you. I 84 stinks thru Hartford Ct if you get caught in rush hour traffic after that it's not too bad. Happy trails whatever way you go Belfast Maine is worth the trip.
