My husband wants to go to a sleddog trade fair at the Hopkinton State fair grounds from September 20 - October 1. I think you can camp on the fair grounds but I would prefer some place with hookups. We do have a generator but not sure if it will run the heat and don't think I would leave it on all night because of the noise. Buying a new generator right now is not an option. With the babies I don't want to risk it being too cold for them. Any suggestions on where we can stay that is still open and within a 15 - 30 minute drive to the fair grounds. I did do a search and nothing came up and I'll continue looking but figured I would seek the knowledge of those in the know. Thanks in advance!!!

Hi Lisa & Ed,

We've enjoyed reading your posts here in the Nor'Easter forum. It's really interesting that you've done so much traveling. So you've been to the Iditarod – that's really cool! We just watched the DVD of Iditarod 2006! On a side note, Linda's boss' husband is a musher! Such a small world! We hope to travel to Alaska in the motorhome one day. Well, for many days...!

Here is a link to the NH Campground Directory. http://www.ucampnh.com/ (You can request a hardcopy be mailed to you right on the homepage. ) You can browse the online Campground Directory for the South Central Region, and it will show you the campgrounds in the area. There is one campground in Contoocook and two in Henniker, which would be closest, but we can't say one way or another whether we'd recommend them. Since we live only 30 minutes from the Hopkinton Fairgrounds we've never camped in the area!

If we can get any local information for you, just let us know. Welcome to the Nor'Easter forum and we look forward to seeing you at a rally!

I think if you check, you'll find that the heat runs on 12 volt. So as long as your battery is good, you should stay warm all night.

Okay who is Linda's bosses husband???? I wonder if we've heard of him. It's such a small community. Are they going to the trade fair in NH? I loved AK. I was thrilled to go but with my new found fear of flying the people I worked with at the time were betting I would never get on the plane...lol

We did find one campground in Coontoocook BUT hubby thinks we should go up early Saturday morning so we can save the price of the pet sitter. I also think with the kids it might be better to stay onsite for when they get bored and need a chill out. We did test the generator and it works with everything but I personally think it's nosy. If the heat will run off the battery we could use the generator during the day and battery at night so we don't disturb anyone. I think most people will be tent camping and we'll be on the opposite side. I'm sure there will be a gazillion dogs there so I'm sure noise won't be a huge issue.

I do love to travel and it's funny I never knew how much we have in our area. I've lived in CT all my life except for 5 years in Florida and a year in Germany and I feel like I'm just discovering all the great things we have. I figure we'll check out our area and once our dog numbers are down we'll be more open to longer vacations. We do have Disney booked for next year because my 6 year old is driving me NUTS and I'm a total Disney addict. Hubby hates crowds so I haven't been since we got together and I really need a fix of fantisy.

Lisa

Great!!!! Thanks for the info!!! We never used our old truck camper that much and the few times we did we were either plugged in or on the generator. I would much rather camp at the fair grounds since it's $23 cheaper and that works for me.

Running the heat can run down the battery pretty fast if the fan is on a lot. We travel with a second battery just in case.
