Frankie, it sounds like a plan. I just hope all the women don't have to be wenches??? I want to be a real pirate. We could have a viewing or Pirates of the Caribbean. What about the pot luck dinner? Any ideas on the menu.

Frankie, do you have a date for this? Sounds great to me..it was one of our best 'non' rallies. I thought it was great of all of you to join us for our family vacation LOL! What do pirates cook? Sounds like it should be smoked turkey legs, eh? The kind you just rip off with your teeth LOL? Although it's a non rally, you would prob want to call to reserve a batch of sites. She didn't charge me anything to do that. Everyone then made their own reservations in the area she gave us.

Just to add to Deer Run. The cost is $25 a night, and just ask to be by Bocce Ball and small pavilion if you want to be near us.

Pirate days in Alexandria harbor is usually mid aug. I will call campground and ask and then post dates. Seems last year it started out a simple invite and a bunch of us showed up.If we do it in aug its easier to take more time off.I like the location and they have done a bunch more work to the campground.New road, no more dust storm getting there.
I can bring my smoker for real authentic turkey legs.As long as you eat it with your hands its pirate food

Looks like this year it was August 8-17, so it covered two weekends. I bet you are right, and the campground will know the exact dates. So it looks like this year, you'll be the one going on vacation, and have a few of your friends show up LOL. It was perfect. So little work, and a lot of fun. You are also right that it was a simple invite..and having her put aside a section was easy..it's such a big place.
What else do Pirates eat (do they really eat turkey legs?)..surely Jesse would know LOL.

I don't know about turkey legs. I have never seen turkeys running around on a pirate ship. I think they drank lots of wine or beer and ate some sort of slop/stew that might have maggots in it... I say lets go for smoked turkey legs. We could make the pot luck "only foods you can eat with your hands".

Hey Jerry..ya bringing that new Roo of yours up to Deer Run?
A mulligan stew (we know it now as hobo stew) is a great idea. Several have big pots. It would be a great community dish, and could cook while we were off doing other things. I'd volunteer to put that together. Everyone adds something from their fidge/freezer/pantry and it would go good with turkey legs LOL!
