I realize that this subject gets beat to death every year,but the dw and I are planning a trip up from tn. to view the fall colors,when is the best time for that? thanks,Tom

It kind of depends on what you want to see. Mid-September to mid-October is usually the peak time for leaf peepers. The leaves change from North to South so, if you want to see the colors on the mountains, you may need to go late September but, if you want to see colors by the lakes, you will need to go a week or two later. If you want to see them in CT, you may need to wait even later. I know that's not very clear but, where are you planning to go? Maybe i can give you a better timeframe?

Thanks for the responses,,we don,t have any definate plans yet,,we are both retired so we just go wherever and whenever ,,,thinking of going all the way up into maine,,maybe the acadia np ,,we will probably stay close to the coast line if possible,,we realize that is a lot of territory,and different peaks are at different times ,,but we are just looking for general peak times right now,,,Tom

Spudwrench, We were in Maine and NH last week. The colors are starting to change. Most tourist go North around Columbus day. The parks start to close after that. I believe the Weather Channel has up to date leaf color info. on there web site.

When we were at Moose Hillock from 8/8 to 8/16, there were some trees that had a branch or two changing. I thought it was way too early and probably a result of too much beer - for me, not the tree.
