We stopped at the Fredericksburg KOA last night on our way back from Myrtle Beach. I guess the Itasca likes it here because she now refuses to start.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to get her going? The engine turns fine and when you turn the key, you can hear the fuel pump for a second but, I don't know if that's long enough.
I'm on the camp store computer and will check back later.
I did call Coachnet at 5:00am and they said I'd have to wait until tomorrow for them to contact a Ford dealer.

Thanks for any help.

With limited info and not being there this is tough, but maybe check the fuel line filter?

I understand. I have just found and reset the fuel pump reset button. It didn't help. The noise I was hearing I had assumed was the fuel pump was actually coming from (I think) the ecm under the power distribution box. I have also placed a call with Ford Roadside Assistance. They can't help until tomorrow either. I guess my vacation will be one day longer than expected!!

With little information such as the make of the chassis or anything else to elaborate the situation, it'll be difficult.

As an effort to give your plight more forum exposure and hopefully more assistance from our members, I'll move your post out of the Regional Chapters, Campouts & Rallies' Northeast Region Forum and place it in the MH - Problems, Solutions & After Market Forum with a link back to the Northeast so you can still find it.

Good luck.

Any suggestions are just educated guesses but better than nothing. Make sure you aren't trying too hard and hitting the accelerator when starting. Engines nearly always must not have the accelerator depressed at all in order to start. Re-check to see that the slides are in and jacks are up. You could even cycle them to be sure. Lastly, something you can do is to disconnect the ground of the battery for a minute and let the computer reset. I see not much else you can do. Let us know what happens.

This is frustrating, I wish I could help, but there is so many things that could be causing it. I wouldn't keep trying it until you wait a couple of hours, then something may self fix...

The following assumes you have a gas engine. If the engine is cranking, then there are basically only two reasons it will not start. You have no fuel or no spark. I suggest the following with the understanding you know the dangers and risks.

To check for fuel, take off the air cleaner. While a helper cranks the engine, slowly pour some gas into the air intake. No more than a cup and poured slowly. If the engine sputters and then dies, the problem is fuel. If the sympton remains unchanged, the problem is spark.

The following should be done only if there is nothing wet that the person will touch when performing this task. The person should also not be touching any metal (included painted surfaces).

To check for spark, remove a spark plug wire from the spark plug. Find a length of metal that will fit into the spark plug wire cap and still stick out the end of the wire. With gloves, hold the wire so the metal rod is only a spark plug gap (about .05" away from the top of the spark plug. Have someone crank the engine. If there is a spark the the problem is fuel. If there is no spark, the problem is in the curcuit that provides the volts to the spark plugs.

Do what Gary said, then wait till tommorrow for ford. They have a good customer service line, they could talk you through. You could have gotten bad fuel somewher, unlikely ,but could happen. It happened to me on a new chevy one time and it was a fuel filter.Had scaling in the tank and clogged the system.Keep us posted.

Frankie,

I am not too sure about trying that on a coil on plug engine such as you will find in a Ford motor home chassis. When I fist got mine I had never seen a coil on plug engine before and just stared while comming to the realization that "Hey there are no spark plug wires on this thing!"

Got to learn more about this new thing before too much longer goes by.

FWIW - I think CoachNet is Ford as well as others. They just answer phone with proper name based upon phone line activated.

Great news! We waited for a tow truck until 2:00 on Monday. They towed us about 60 miles to Ted Britt ford in Chantilly, VA. When we got to Ted Britt, they dropped everything and found that we had a loose ground wire from the fuel pump. We were out of there in about 30 minutes.
We left for home from there and drove through torrential rain all night and arrived at home just as the sun was coming up at 5:45 tuesday morning.
Thanks to everyone for your help. We'll see you in NH!
