For the second weekend in a row, we have been in a campground with very low utilization. The first one was a year or 2 old and was 25% full on Memorial Day weekend. The second was a well established campground that we have been to many times. It couldn't have had more than 50% of the transient sites filled and many of the seasonal sites still looked winterized.
I can't remember going to a campground in the Northeast that wasn't at capacity or at least close to it on a weekend. Is the high price of fuel to blame or is something else going on?

We are going to Syracuse at the end of the month. So I checked with Turning Stone, and they are "full". Probably due to the 4th of July. Last week we were in Vermont, and I counted 6 RV's that came in for the week-end. Go figure, It must make a diffence where you go.

Our neighbor was at Turning Stone last weekend and they said it was full. We were at LG RV park a couple weekends ago, and LGRV Park said they were full, but they had an awful lot of empty sites for someone who was full. Perhpas they were all coming in on Monday after we left. There were a lot of people, but it was the Elvis Festival and the Motorcycle rally just starting.

You can give Green Lakes State Park a try, probably full also.

http://nysparks.state.ny.us/parks/info.asp?parkID=23

Everyone who has been there speaks well of it, it's only 5 / 6 miles from the house so we never have camped there. Great golf course if you're into that.

When we were at Williamsburg last week the campground was pretty much full the whole time we were there, and that was a Mon. thru Fri.
