Ken, we were thinking of you and Carol, and wondering how you both have been. I assume it's fishing season, and that's why it's been so silent on your end. Hope all is going well! (PS Big Brother is soon to start, but that has nothing to do with why I was thinking of ya LOL!)

I knew he was walking..we took care of that in the winter. For some reason I thought he had already walked. Is this the original walk, or is he doing it a second time? I guess I didn't realize it was now. We'll be thinking of you Ken..and cheering you on!

HI EVERYONE
I just wanted to let you all know that we're doing well and REALLY missed seeing you all this spring.
Carol is doing GREAT. She just had her first post surgery/radiation treatments mamogram and it was clear of cancer. Carol is without a doubt the toughfest woman I know, she only missed two days of work throughout this entire process and those two days were the days after her surgery. She did all her treatments on her coffee breaks and lunch breaks so she would be available at her lab to take care of her clients and patients. I'm sure most of you will agree that Carol is the "better" half of our team.
Frankie was correct, We have both been very involved in the Boston 3-Day 60 mile Breast Cancer Walk which "finally" takes place the weekend of July 8, 9, 10th. It has been both a pleasure and a pain to be involved in this event. We've met some of the most incredibly brave men and women you could ever imagine, the stories are endless of women facing, dealing with, beating and unfortunately losing their battle to breast cancer. This has been a life changing experience for me and one I won't soon forget.
However there has been some serious pain and obstacles to overcome in my effort to walk the 60 miles. My training schedule was interrupted in late March with a sprained back that took me about 4 weeks to recover from. During those 4 weeks I wasn't able to train as much as I need too and my conditioning really suffered. The weather this spring was horrible which meant most of my training was done at the gym which isn't really the same as walking outside.
OK! there will be know laughing as you read on!!! By May 14th I was back up to walking 50 miles a week and well on my way to being ready for the July walk. On May 15th we had a fund raising dance at a local K of C hall. It was a Black Tie formal event and we raised some serious money our team. Late in the evening (after having several beers) I was dancing with my buddy's wife when the tempo of the music went from a slow dance to a fast dance (an old twist song), normally I would head for the bar at this point BUT since my senses were clowded by beer we decided to stay on the dance floor and make fools of ourselves. Well that was a bad decision, about half way through the song my right knee "snapped" so loudly that people dancing around us heard it. My dancing was over for that night. I saw my doctor the next morning and he sent me to see a surgeon that afternoon and I was scheduled for surgery on June 3rd. It looked like my chances of making the walk were slim at best. My surgeon said that if I was a pro athelete (which I'm not) I may be able to rehab my knee in 4 - 6 weeks but he didn't think I'd be ready by July 8th to walk in the brest cancer event. I explained to him that I REALLY wanted to try to make it through the walk so he put me on a very aggressive PT schedule (knee exercises 1 hour a day everyday and 3 PT visits per week)plus as much biking and walking as I could handle. I may not make the entire 20 miles a day but I'm going to do my best. This past wednesday I road a bike for 18 miles, walked 4 miles, and had a full hour of PT without any adverse affects. I'm still walking with a noticable limp but it is getting better everyday.
There is a moral to this story for all you guys out there. If your going to tear up your knee DON"T DO IT DANCING WITH SOMEONE ELSE'S WIFE AFTER YOU'VE BEEN DRINKING. That managed to stretch even Carol's infinate patience.
If your familar with MA and NH the walk will start (day 1) at the Pheasent Lane Mall in Nashua, NH and end at FT Devons on July 8th. Day 2 we'll go from FT Devons to Lexington Minuteman High School on July 9th. Day 3 will be from LMHS to MIT campus in Cambridge, MA on July 10th
I'll try to keep everyone up to date on my progress.
BTW Our team Sara's Miles raised a total of over $35,000 for the event and we are in 5th place overall in contributions out of over 220 teams.
THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR THOUGHT'S, PRAYERS, HELP. Ken & Carol

Ken, so glad to hear from you...I was getting a little worried. Tell Carol how very happy we are, that all is good! We think of her often.
Dancing huh? Nope, no laughs from me..I'm thinking you had enough pain and anguish, that you sure don't need laughter.
Do the best you can, and know we'll be routing for you!

Hi Ken & Carol,
From the sounds of it, you are pretty strong yourself, Ken. It is admirable that you are still planning on doing the walk even after knee surgery. Again just think of all those Nor'Easter faces on the sidelines, cheering you on.
We are delighted to hear that Carol's latest exam was cancer free. You are right, she is strong and I am sure that helped her to fight this disease.
Hope we will see you guys sometime soon!

Hi Ken & Carol, Sounds like things are starting to come back together for both of you. Great news about Carol. We'll pray for her continued good health. You certainly are determined to get rehabilitated and for good cause. Keep up the good work. Hope to see you soon.
