We will be visiting relatives in NJ and looking to rent an RV sleeping 2 adults and 1-2 kids. Must have A/C and bathroom/shower.

We are a very responsible, careful and clean family. Will take top care of your vehicle. Not planning any travel with it (just a place to sleep while there).

Thank

Leah

North Jersey (Bergen county), but anywhere within 1-1.5 hour radius would be OK. The services I saw on the web were really expensive (in the $5K range for a month and a half). We could rent a house for that price, but being next door is just much more convenient.

Also I was wondering if we may have any legal/police issues if we park in my relatives driveway for a month an a half. Are there zoning laws regarding RVs on private property?

Leah,

It is usually the town or the homeowners association that restricts the time a RV can be in a driveway. So you should check on that first.

Other things you should consider are:
- does your relatives house have a 30-50 amp electrical plug? You are going to need that if you run the AC.
- do they have sewer/septic access so you can dump your holding tanks after using the bathroom or shower?
- is the driveway relatively level?
- for a month and a half, you will want a unit with slide outs so you have more interior room. Is the driveway about 12 feet wide?

What town in Bergen County? My wife grew up in Garfield which has very tight streets and I would not want to drive a MH down some of those streets.

With 2 kids, it may be cost effective to buy a used travel trailer. You can then use it for vacation and visit your relatives every year!

I think you would be better off to just rent a house. For the space you need and ammenities you are looking for, RV's rent will be much more expensive than a house. I don't know many private owners, if any (check the thread on who you would loan your MH to) would rent thier home. Not an injunction on your family but, two kids in a MH for a month is, well, two kids in a motor home for a month. Even well behaved kids.

I also agree with RvThere about a TT. For the $5k you could get a pretty nice travel trailer that would be your's to keep and use in the future.

Just my 2 cents. Hope you find what you need and enjoy your stay.

I grew up in Bergen County NJ and there are no campgrounds. My town did not allow any RV or commercial vehicles parked in driveways. So better check the town ordnances. Plus where will you dump your waste tanks? With that many people the tanks will fill up in a couple days.

Thank you for all the input. We weren't planning on spending any time in the MH (just use it for sleeping quarters).

Town ordinance is something we need to check.

Thank you again

+1. I drove over to a friends house in Ft Lee and within 15 mins the police showed up responding to "numerous complaints"... in the middle of the day.

I don't know how it is in Bergen Cty, but in Burlinton Cty - you can't "Live" in an RV in a Residential area. I would check that out before spending the money on a rental unit.
