Maine, US 2 and US 1

Has anyone had experience driving across Maine on US 2 from St Johnsbury, VT to Bangor, and Route 1 from Caribou, Maine, down to Calais and then on to Acadia? We have a 45 footer with toad and am interested to know if those roads are viable for our coach. If they are, does anyone have any good campground recommendations? Understand that there is a nice campground in St Andrews, New Brunswick run by the local Kiwanis Club.

Any thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You should have no problem with your plan. In May I came across rt 2 with my 35 foot FW, there were a couple of pot holes but other than that it was in good shape. Route 1 has a few rough spots eas of Acadia but for the most part it is in good shape.

When you mentioned Acadia, were you referring to Acadia National Park? The road down Rt1 to Calais is not the best and has truck traffic on narrow two lane roads. If going to Acadia NP, I would suggest taking RT Bangor to Ellsworth then on to Mt. Desert Island. Route 1 from Calais to Ellsworth is pretty good, but rough and narrow through Milbridge. Good luck with your travels and enjoy Maine.

Thanks for the tip. We will be traveling to Burlington from Bangor in a few days on RT 2 in a 37 FW.

You will have no problem on either road. I've been on both and enjoyed them both.
