Hi All,
Any of you "live free or die" folks got a sense of MH registration and license fees?
My house is now under agreement and I'm thinking of moving back to NH as renter for a year. I called NH DMV and based on GVW of about 46,500 (2007 42' Foretravel Nimbus) they thought my cost would be $350 range for state and something less than that for the town. That seemed very low. Am I missing something is there some other tax I'm forgeting? If it's that low I wonder why NH never gets mentioned with TX and SD as a good address for fulltimers.
Thanks.

Hi,
Our motorhome GVW is less than yours, at 27,910 lbs, which ='s a $268.20 fee to the state.
As you may know, each town sets it's own mil rate, since our motorhome is older, the town fees came to just over $800 the last time we registered it in Sept 06.
Hope this helps..

In the town we live in (and I believe most NH towns are this way), the fee is based upon the vehicle's model year and the original factory list price of the vehicle. For a new registration, the model year determines what millage (tax) rate (18, 15, 12, 9, 6, or 3 dollars per $1,000 of value of the original list price) is used to compute the fee. For example, a 2007 model year is charged $18 per thousand; a 2006 model year is charged $15 per thousand, etc. The number of months for which a new vehicle will be registered is determined by the vehicle owner's month of birth. Generally, a new vehicle cannot be registered for less than five months or more than sixteen months.
So, for example, if your birth month is May and you wanted to register your coach in May, a 2007 model with a LIST PRICE $400,000 would cost
[$400,000 msrp x ($18.00 / $1,000 millage) / 12 months] x 8 months 2007 = $4,800
PLUS
[$400,000 msrp x ($15.00 / $1,000 millage) / 12 months] x 4 months 2008 = $2,000
for a total of $6,800 for the first 12 months. And that's just the town's portion! The state portion sounds about right.
After living here for 17 years, we've finally gotten the hang of this! I suggest you contact the town in which you may be living to find out if they calculate the rate the same way. It's definitely not cost effective for fulltimers!
Good luck!

Joppa,
I'd love to pay what the DMV told you, but Horsepowerfan is right. This year for my 2005 I paid $1442 to the town for 7mo @12mil & 5mo @ 9mil. State was $201.60.
If you trade every 4 years you'll never see 6mil or 3mil.

I had a feeling I was getting bad info from DMV... Town of North Hampton directed me there based on GVW being to big for them to figure. She did say she would be using MSRP not the purchase price. Yikes. After a few years it about adds up to MA's 5% sales tax. Hello Montana.
Thanks folks
